View Full Version : Organising your collection

I was just adding some more pictures to my growing collection when i realised how disorganised it is, in my "Vintage" file i have many sub files, such as Victorian (named), Victorian (Unnamed, where the picture just has "01", "02" etc, rather than a file name like "Anticimage05"), "Vintage Colour", "Vintage Sex", Vintage (Retro Raunch) etc.
How do you organise your pictures, if you want to save a picture that has a name like "01" how do you make sure you don't already have it?
I rename each jpg file, one by one, takes a lot of time, but I don't download everything, I just pick out the best. Ant renamer is a good app for renaming and the are others too, for people who are serious with this stuff

I have my smut arranged into folders, and for e.g. my vintage folder the files are named something like vintaaa001 where the set is aaa, aab, aac etc. and the number explains itself. I use Paint Shop Pro which is good for browsing folders and excellent for image editing. It also has the benefit of being able to batch rename files. That said, my system is still somewhat chaotic, I really need to sort out my downloaded files, which have grown exponentially since joining this forum :-\

That's of course a remaining and always growing problem >:(
For batch renaming I use
http://www.lab1.de/Central/Software/Datei-Tools/Joe/
I dunno if there are similar tools for different languages.
Then I created subfolders (in the main folder) for the women I know by name, well not all, but some, so I can find them more easily. In the main folder are the women known by name but I'm too lazy to create new folders.
Then I try to seperate the files from Mags respectively the Firm and the Mags it published with subfolders (CCC, Private et al, Silwa, Pleasure),
then Vidcaps, Loops/Videos/films,
Black/white
And the many many many stories with unknown women I invented a system for myself in describing in shortcuts what I see, how much I like the women, in/out, partly anal/only anal, Clothes, how many partipicians (m/f)
Very difficult, but not too bad ;D , because with a desktop search tool (now copernic, since yahoo just stopped working >:() I usually find stories in shorter or longer time, and THAT'S a real satisfaction to insert new unknown pics.

:D
I have one 'PICTURES' folder subdivided into 8 categories
A-Z (all models by known name and/or aliases)
COLLECTIONS (subdivided in numerical order)
MET-ART (models from Met-Art - in named order)
PiER999 (models from PiER999 - in named order)
PLAYBOY (collections of all models from 1953-2009 - loose models, PDF mags)
SETS (subdivisions of sets from FemJoy, MetModels, Evasgarden etc)
SUZE (Suze Randall collections in named order then number)
W4B (collections in named order from Watch4Beauty)
That's about all of it for now.
I guess the trick is having the models name alias or tag therefore being able to put in the correct folders, that's why this forum is so great I can't give thanks enough to the rare scans and models I have found here. Some I thought would never surface again!
Seeing how this is an ongoing collection and always 'evolving' hard drives are best I guess using cds only for real back up back ups if sets are complete.
Great way to satisfy your obsessive compulsive needs!
I use renamemaster from JoeJoeSoft to rename all files by name and number order.Files in sets are named and placed in relevant models folder until time comes to unwrap them and 'take them out to play'
LOL

This is what I do.
Each individual model has her own separate folder. Inside that folder I divide it up into sub-folders that have the prefix 'G' for 'Gallery', 'V' for 'View'. Inside those sub-folders each 'G' and 'V' sub-folder is number from 01 upwards. Each picture pertaining to a set is placed inside these sub-folders which I give numbers to from 01 upwards.

Is it a sign I've been spending too much time in the porn sections of the forum that I momentarily read the thread title as "Orgasmizing your collection"?
Any rate, I organize by name. For porn stars and nude models its basically just one folder for each one. For mainstream actresses/celebrities I'll further subdivide with a folder for each movie/TV show (sometimes with another layer by episode or to separate promo shoots from caps), magazine article/photoshoot or public appearance/event. But I only started doing that a couple years ago and I still have a lot of stuff just piled together under their name. (When I'm bored, sorting some more gives me something to do.)
I would like to warn you all: don't become to dependent on one system, unless you back up your stuff regularly.
For known actresses I create a separate folder.
Since I have used ACDSee for as long as I can remember, when I got the latest version I started to tag and categorize pictures and vids with it. Shoot names, names of the people who uploaded them (so I could give credit), etc.
Then my database got corrupted beyond repair, and I lost all the info. On top of that, the latest ACDSee is crappy, so I won't be using it again - back to version 3 and Faststone.
So, if you need to have extra information on a picture, back up a lot or use a program you trust :) Or slap it on somewhere in the file name :)

I organize by name as well - each model has her own folder which is then subdivided for different sets.
I had the same problem with ACDSee - all information was lost once my HD said goodbye.
I'm still using it, but I undertook the gigantic effort to write the information I needed (like "playmate", "blonde", "toys" ect.) into the IPTC data of the picture itself, using Irfan View for batch processing.
ACDSee can then read that data and it won't be lost ever again.

Hi
Naming your pics:
I do as follows - when I for instance have a complete scan of a magazine: Mark all by alt + A, I guess you knew, then right click on one of them, and "change name." All of them will change names, only with a number added.
Duplicates - A major nuisance. I use two programs:
- Duplicate finder: Searches your disk/folder and sort files by size or name. Mark the ones you want to delete and voila, away they go. Fast response.
- Visual similarity duplicate image finder. Find pictures that looks alike. Bring up your folder together with the search-result and delete files as you mark them in the search-box. Slow program since the information is massive.

Well, I just collect them till my hdd is full, I tranfer them to DVD and I make a mental note to myself that I have to organise them some way, but I never get around to it...
I must have thousand of duplicates by now.

Thank you all so far. Many good advice but...
I am about to start a site where all my mags will be available. I will zip the pics and let Joomla distribute them in galleries. Is there any way I can tag all pictures automatically?

Interesting thread.
My #1 folder is an A - Z of models, a subfolder for each letter, subfolders in those for each model, and subfolders in those for individual sets if the model has more than 100 pics to her name.
I have a huge #2 folder containing models not yet identified, sorted into blonde, brunette, black and red-haired, which is the best way to organise.
Folder #3 is stuff I've downloaded and have yet to move to #1 and #2.
Folder #4 is given over to old pics that are yet to be sorted and single or quirky pics that won't have a home.
All of the above is about 80gb, some half a million jpegs.
Folder #5 is movies, subfoldered by site.
Yeah, I like my porn.

Thanks for the good sensible advice on naming conventions here (and backups!).
In my experience you can't have too many subfolders. And go for meaningful names. A friend borrowing my stash is being driven mental by my neglect of naming ay-tee-kay sets with proper model identifiers. Who knew there'd be so many 'jans' and 'alis' and 'cats' over the years?
I'm partial to the image management program ThumbsPlus made by Cerious software (promos often drop the price too). It's a full Explorer type file/directory manager - but with thumbnails!
It makes batch renaming a breeze and is expert level for tagging/adding notes or keywords.
It sorts on a large range of criteria. Very useful if you rip a site that has randomized filenames, when a 'time downloaded' sort or even a 'similarity' sort can save hours of effort rearranging.
There's a 'gallery' function in which you can create and memorize image playlists, including manual sorting. Very cool!
It can drill down subfolders, i.e. show every image in a folder tree.
Can track changes made in Explorer even if the Thumbs database is closed. Brilliant if you are prone to moving things around that way as you don't detach the thumbnails from their files if you move or delete a subfolder.
Handles batch processing, like auto-naming when inputting from a scanner or batch image correction, resizing, re-compression. If you need those ridiculous 5,000 pixel JPG files optimized to save space, this prog is excellent.
Best of all, it has a serious duplicate/similarity finder. You can set thresholds for a search (from not too similar, ranging up to identical metrics) or it can do a compare as you drag and drop one batch into another folder. It can auto delete the dupes as they copy across or auto-rename similar or duplicate files in case you're the cautious type.
The downside:
Not a great editor, just an adequate one. No retouching tools, just image quality sliders/rotate/resize etc.
Can't auto-delete the duplicate files on a per search basis (or I haven't worked out how to)
Seems to have an image cap of about 500,000 pics per database. That's a joke with fast broadband.
Databases do get corrupted sometimes (usually when they hit 2GB in size) and then you lose your stored galleries, etc. Sometimes the repair option helps.
Privacy: this program has a Privacy tab to let you control the way it interacts with Recent Document lists or the Recycle Bin. But then it does one immensely stupid thing. No matter where you create or hide your database files, the program stores the list of recent file renames in a drop down list in an .ini file in its root folder - not in the individual database. Anybody using your PC that starts a ThumbsPlus session and tries to rename ouranniversaryphotos001.jpg will immediately notice your previous humungousblackhooters batch rename. If that kind of thing embarrasses you, beware!
Despite its faults, I've stuck with it for more than a decade.
Oh, and it has a hands-free slideshow. Noooo idea what that's for.

I think the phrase I was searching for is 'organic' which is why I find writing
to dvd to be a real drag, I also lost over 4gb of a S*ze collection because of dvd :o
gosh, nowdays my PiER999 has almost quadrupled in size thanks to the wealth of mega thread rapidsh**** and uploaders

Very interesting discussion by all.
Here's my underlying scheme. Definitely imperfect (I will gladly switch to anything better that I read of here, or modify accordingly). Generally I only name discs and folders, but leave picture or video file names as is.
Broad divisions by Ethnicity (a maddeningly elusive characteristic at times, routinely misrepresented in the porn world).
A for Asian
B for Black
C for Caucasian
H for Hawaiian/Pacific Islander
I for Indian/SE Asian
L for Latin
Subdivisions by Content Type
CL for Celebrities, actresses, public figures, etc.
PS for Pornstars
SX for Hardcore and softcore (sex) material featuring
non-named models (and sometimes named models
who do not appear in video)
SY for Glamour/sexy/nudity material
WS for Web stars (a subdivision of the SY material
reserved for models who provide so much content
that they often fill a CD or DVD excluding all else)
SR for Series (when I want to keep various models from a given site,
magazine, etc. together; I usually split it up when it comes to known
models. For instance, many ALS models I keep together, but known
models like Silvia Saint or Isabella Camille are split out into their own
folders elsewhere)
All categories may contain both known and unknown performers. For those known, folders with the name of the performer are used (subfolders for sets). For unknown, I usually use some other clumsy reference to pictorial content (like "Car Eyed Brunette in Garters", or "Two Slender Blonde Euroteens). YMMV.
Some Examples:
An entire disc of pictures and videos of Katie Fey/Jenya would be marked CWS - Jenya.
An assortment of sets of Kobe Tai, Miko Lee, Avena Lee and Charmane Star would be marked APS.
Various P1ayb0y pictorials of Venice Kong, Ola Ray, Lizette Bordeaux and Karin Taylor would be categorized under BSY.
And so on.

I use ACD see and put things into my favorite categories:
Stilettos
Double Penetration
Tits
Stockings
etc - when they fall into more than one category I use my favorite - not scientific but it works

You know you're dedicated when you read a thread like this and get aroused by it :o
Agreed with Sadielover - A-Z and then type/hair colour is best although now thanks to this site I have a ton of mag scans which I have doctored or 'stapled' together and movie clips, s*ze clips etc etc - though I can never finish sorting my redheads folder, even two handed [LOL]
must be easily aTB worth, you think one day we will be able to share whole collections with the flick of a switch?
