Collection organizer software

Hi all,

I am a software developer and also a big fan of collecting, mostly porn :)
I often come across problems, when trying to organize the movies, photos, etc. So I have an idea of a program, which would allow to catalog porn collection in a suitable way, so the user would be able to access required photo or movie scene very quickly. Let's say that you have your favourite actress or some fetish scene. You tag the scene with some keyword, such as "big tits". Then you are able to get to that particular scene without big effort, even if you tagged, say 20 movies like that. Or you can do the same with photos - entering one keyword would give you the list of tagged files. Just like Windows search feature but with greater possibilities.
The thing is, that to create a good software, developer must know "use cases" for the software. So I would like to ask you for help and provide some feedback on features, you find most important.

what i miss with such programs is a stable performance. for my image galleries i use ACDSee, with a deep category system to organize separated parts like profile images, gallery and movie preview pics (separated = selected images i don't remove from my collection even after a collection was backed up. my gallery and movie collection is entirely disconnected from my model collection). problem for this and all other software i've checked is that it wents slower and slower the bigger your collection gets.

while i think i can live with a slower performance when it comes to searching, i think that it's not necessary that also the recording of new items is affected (especially category tagging). the ACDSee database meanwhile is a pita, it can take up to 3 seconds before i am able to assign the next category to single/multiple image(s).

what i would love to see is a database which offers a good api you can call from outside the software itself (to build own frontends which takes advantage of the data you've added to the database), wide import/export options and finally a system which doesn't slow down. I've written a small solution myself via PHP (+MySQL DB) so i know that this is possible. sure the software should also offer standards like previews, imageviews, thumbnails, contact sheet creation, basic image modifications like cropping/resizing/converting and metatag-injection.

@Xxphd: Tri-CATALOG is not exactly what I meant. Sure it has features of cataloging but lacks some other feats, such as creating caps from a movie (overview or thumbs).
@hos: yes, performance is definatelly a wanted thing, especially if you deal with lots of data. API is a good idea too, but there must be someone who would use it :)

Sorry for reanimating a dead thread; registered to help out. You should give ThumbsPlus a try (http://www.cerious.com/). I organize 1.5 million images with ThumbsPlus using a SQLite database with good performance (database size is 6.5GB). I tried alot of DAM software and ThumbsPlus was the only one able to handle that many files (and have a ok interface).

Edit: But don't use version 8 of ThumpsPlus if you can avoid it because version 8 is pretty crappy. Use version 7 or version 9 beta.

May i ask for what purpose you require face recognition?
