In November of 1988, I was back in CONUS from Spain for four weddings in five weeks. One of my best friends was getting married in Providence, RI. I was going to meet them at the Foxy Lady after the rehearsal dinner. While there, I had my pictuire taken with Carina. She was on a tour of strip clubs and had copies of her latest appearance in the US edition of Club magazine on hand for autographs. I was amazed at how lean she was and how large here breasts were for her petite body. She and her husband/boyfriend/manager were touring North American strip clubs and charging $20 for an autographed instant Polaroid with her.
I was the only one in the club to get a photo taken within a ten minute period. She seemed a little nervous. Her male companion kept saying that it was only going to be a little longer. She wore a robe all the time except when she briefly opened it up for the photo. She never got up and danced. When I complimented her on her centerfold appearance, she lit up and gripped my arm very tightly and thanked me profusely.
It really seemed that the guy she was with was the one who's idea was to tour strip clubs for personal appearances. She really didn't seem comfortable being there.
These were the days before cell phones. I got a phone call at the bar about ten minutes later from my buddies saying that they weren't coming and to go back to the hotel.
As I was walking to my car in the parking lot, I passed them on the way to their car. I said good bye and they both smiled, said goodbye back, and got in the car to leave.

I would have to guess that, if the club where you met her is anything like strip clubs that I've visited, there is a certain amount of 'heaviness' to the ambiance. Lots of undeclared cash changes hands quickly, and the management is not the type of people which one should take lightly, if you know what I mean.

Playboy, in its heyday, must have been the polar opposite of a strip club environment, and a young lady, as seemingly nice and uncorrupted as Carina Persson, would have received the ultra-professional kid glove treatment. Of course, the world of a Playboy Playmate photoshoot is even bigger bucks than any strip club. I remember a video interview with playmate Helle Michaelsen, where she spoke well of her treatment chez Hefner and his bunnies.

My impression of strip clubs is that someone is being taken advantage of: Sometimes it is the girls, and other times, its the clientele.

I think that was about the time I met her too, but it was at another club called the Fuzzy Grape in Webster, MA. I got a Polaroid taken with her too, probably still have it, and I think she autographed her centerfold issue for me too. I wish I could remember more about her appearence there, she was billed as "direct from Hawaii". I'll have to see if I can find that Polaroid and post it here.
