I had always hoped to see her! She was only 61 years old!
Details about her death have yet to be revealed, but Hefner broke the news on his twitter page on Friday (04Nov11), writing, "I'm saddened by the news of the passing of beloved Playmate Cynthia Myers, Miss December 1968."

Here's an article written years ago by her friend Steve Sullivan:

In December of 1968 I was a 12-year old boy, just beginning to learn what girls and women were all about. My family went to a friend's house for a Christmas party, and I went because their son - who was 15 - had a great collection of comic books. After dinner I was up in his room reading comics, and he asked me if I wanted to read something more interesting. When I replied "Sure", he pulled the December 1968 Playboy out from under his mattress and handed it to me. Before I got much of a chance to really look at the magazine, my parents were calling up the stairs saying it was time to leave.
I was about to leave, when their son came up behind me, lifted my coat up, pulled my shirt out of my pants, jammed the magazine down my pants, and covered it up. I rode in mild pain for over an hour back to our home, with this magazine digging into my ass and lower back - scared to adjust it for fear I'd be discovered. Finally, we made it home and I was able to retreat to my room and read my treasure!
Cynthia Myers was the first girl/woman I ever saw nude, and I fell in instant love with her! Her stunning figure, those pendulous breasts, but most of all... those beautiful dark eyes! I remember spending many hours looking at her gatefold, and wondering what was going on behind those deep, dark eyes.
As the years went by, there would be other Playmates that I'd admire - but none ever moved me like Cynthia did, because she was the first. Occasionally I'd see her mentioned in Playboy - most recently when the Schlitz beer advertisements with her were published - but after the mid-70's she seemed to vanish from sight. The acting career didn't seem to pan out, and she kind of fell off the radar.
A couple of years ago, I found her website, and ordered two pictures - a nude side profile of her smiling at the camera, and an autographed B&W publicity headshot that she autographed to me. I had hoped to someday meet her - maybe at a Glamourcon convention somewhere - but sadly, that will now never happen.
Cynthia had been voted the #10 Playmate of the Century by Playboy, but to me she was #1 - then, now, and forever.
Goodbye Cynthia, God be with you.

I was born in 1970...so I missed out on her in 68...but when I saw Beyond the valley of the dolls...I couldn't believe how beautiful she was. I didn't think women that hot existed in the 60s...not to mention those breasts. Sad to hear this. Who would have believed hef would outlive her.

When I first saw her in Playboy magazine, I said Wholly Toledo! So did her article. On the Internet, it has been said she had football shaped boobs.
I think they are more bullet shaped, myself.
The worst part of her dieing is that she was friends with Jill Taylor and she managed to tell Jill's fans what happened to Jill. Jill went from Jewish to Christian after her article. She got married had 3 sons and divorced, remarried and divorced 3 times.
Jill is 40 Lbs overweight and has a double chin now. Her hair is short and dyed dark. Her hair is mousy grey. She is almost unrecognizable. She cleans houses for a living, scrubbing toilets. That is what CM said. Tragic. I do not know the cause of death. Many tend to die when they age to 61 years old. It is that age when people go senile and do not get repaired by their doctors.

You're scaring me - I'm two weeks older than the late Cynthia.

The latest that I have heard is that she died of lung cancer. Cigarettes claim another victim.

I was in the middle of looking at her pictorial when I found out the sad news to be completely honest. She's without a doubt my all time favorite Playmate and I'm sure she enhanced the lives of many generations throughout the years. Cynthia Myers is without a doubt the true definition of a classic.
RIP

I have gotten confirmation of that Masque:
In the days since Hugh Hefner’s announcement, news of Cynthia’s death has been tragically overlooked by most media sources, and no word of the cause of her death has been officially made. However, via Cynthia’s former manager and friend Siouxan Perry of Girlwerks Media, I can tell you that Cynthia lost a battle with lung cancer. She was 61.

Yes, drinking alcohol causes Breast Cancer and she had voluptuous breasts that were football shaped or bullet shaped.
The thread about here has disappeared. I found some new images of her, but I dont think it is appropriate to show them in this time of mourning of her.
I am almost 57 and have been diagnosed with Melanoma of the skin from Sunburn when I was a child. It takes about 50 year to get this disease.
Yes, if the tests come back positive and they are malignant, then I may die too.
May Jehovah rest her soul in heaven and paradise. She is an angel now. She always was.

I am sorry to hear of your melanoma. That is very very serious. That's why I go to the dermatologist every year. Good luck with yours.

Yes, cancer is a bastard. We should be devoting every resource to fighting it in all its forms. My ma passed recently of a particularly aggressive form of cancer - pancreatic cancer. BEST WISHES. Hope you kick cancer's ass.

Here is the announcement Victoria posted about Cindy's memorial on the Playboy Mailing List (PML), through Mark Tomlonson:
Victoria Valentino has asked me to send this message to the PML:
Cynthia Myers, Miss December 1968, One of the Top 100 Centerfolds of the Century and Star of Russ Meyer's cult film, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, who passed away November 3, 2011, at home a month after the passing of her husband Mike, will be memorialized in a special Memorial Service, officiated by Victoria Valentino, Miss September 1963, also, One of the Top 100 Centerfolds of the Century, and eulogized by Steve Sullivan, author of Bombshells, Glamour Girls Then and Now. It will be attended by her family and many who loved and admired her and who had remained her friends throughout the years.
As you know, Victoria started a Fundrazr on Facebook, to be able to provide
Cynthia with the best, most loving and respectful going away party that could be given ever, as funds were so minimal that her son was unable to hold a service, let alone provide for his wife and four little children after his parents' passing.
We are so happy to announce that in addition to surpassing our stated financial goal from all of you wonderful Fans, Hef, bless him for his generosity, has donated VERY generously towards making this Memorial a proper one. We will do Cynthia proud and give her grandbabies a good Christmas, too!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Date: January 14th, Saturday.
Time: 11 a.m.
Place: Mountainview Cemetery
