Well sam...some real nice pictures of mata hari....better than most I've seen and certainly from these pics you can understand her allure.....Most other pics of her I've seen have been pretty ordinary....
You're right...the french did shooot her for spying but no one is absolutely sure who she was ultimately spying for....many think she was a double agent...

The film, while made after the inception of the infamouse Motion Picture Production Code (or "Hays Code", as it was also known), was produced prior to the commencement of 'voluntary compliance' which began in 1934. Many stars of the period between the beginning of talkies and 1934 appeared nude or semi nude in those days... Lombard, Harlow, Claudette Cobert, Dietrich, even Maureen O'Sullivan (although her famous Tarzan swim was actually a body double). Hedy Lamarr even beat Meg Ryan's "Sleepless" onscreen orgasm by 60 years with her amazing portrayal of a climax in "Extascy"- never mind the nude swimming...

So based on what others were doing, I think yes, that is her real body,and no one has played with the image...

The Garbo picture is very real. There are a number of publicity stills in that outfit in very high quality. The scene, alas, is no longer in the movie. Quite a bit of the movie was cut after the Hays office started cracking down. The opening dance sequence on the DVD looks drastically edited, the scene with the open-sided see-through gown is gone. Supposedly the deleted footage exists in a studio vault (I forget which one). I did once sign an online petition encouraging them to restore it, though I doubt that will accomplish anything.
