Got to thinking that Television has been ruling the waves
since the 1950s !
TV has been a big threat to Hollywood but Hollywood fought back with the blockbuster movies and innovative guys like
Stephen Speilberg so Hollywood is still thriving today , even
in this world of wall to wall television.

Look at Pinewood Studios in the UK... up and running in the 1930s
with a fantastic CV of movies including all the Carry On movies which were made there.
The studios are still going strong even though it seems that half of their production is for TV these days.
Still ... if it pays the rent.

Gerry Anderson is one of the founding fathers of TV
Gerry is a brilliant guy and thankfully still going strong ...
Torchy is one of his first attempts at putting puppets on TV
but as you can see, it is still watchable and very charming
even with the strings so visible.

He went on to make so much TV that is cult TV today and enjoyed all over the world.
The human /animation combo also worked well in UFO
( despite the purple wigs ! )

From the early days, panel games... have always been popular
I always thought that ... Whats My Line ... was a very
British show, but it seems like the Yanks got there
first and over the years had far more exotic and glamorous guests.........

Rock Follies was a memorable TV series from way back
in 1976 made by the late lamented Thames Television.
It starred the lovely Rula Lenska

along with Julie Covington and another redhead Charlotte Cornwell.

They played an all girl singing group in the popular
TV series and even went on to release 2 LPs

Julie is of course famous for turning down the starring role
in Evita the West End Musical smash hit.
(whatever were you thinking about Julie ?? )

The series was shown in parts of the US and on public television where it became a bit of a cult.
