I am astounded that that and other websites keep mentioning "Never Say Never Again" it was not an official Bond movie, i.e. not sanctioned by Danjaq S.A. who did not allow anything resembling James Bond to be used including the famous gun barrel sequence, the dancing nude girls and the name 007 plus the gun logo. It is a re-hash of "Thunderball" and is the result of a falling out between Broccoli/Saltzman and Kevin McClory who won a court case to use the story and keep the rights. Personally it is a dreadful comeback for Sean Connery who should have walked away FAST! from it. Most notable for Rowan Atkinson as Nigel Small-Fawcett and Algy(the Q character) who says to Bond "I'm glad your back Mr Bond, are we going to have some gratuitous sex and vilolence?"
To which Bond replies "I hope so Algy!" CRINGE!!!!!

I am astounded that that and other websites keep mentioning* "Never Say Never Again" it was not an official Bond movie, i.e. not sanctioned by Danjaq S.A.
Most Bond websites (and most Star Trek, Star Wars, etc. websites) are fanmade. And fans don't really care about a Bond movie being made or sanctioned by Danjaq or not.
Danjaq isn't the owner of the James Bond copyrights. In fact, they have to buy the rights from Glidrose publishing. Glidrose owns the rights to the Fleming books. But they can't sell the movie rights to ThunderBall because Kevin McClory owns them. How did Kevin McClory get them? Well, he and Fleming together with Jack Whittingham came up with the story for ThunderBall for a TV series to be made. However McClory and Whittingham couldn't finance the series and the partnership desolved. Fleming, behind the backs of McClory and Whittingham made a novelization and that book is called Thunderball. Naturally McClory and Whittingham sued Fleming. The judge gave ownership of the movierights of Thunderball to McClory and ordered Fleming to mention in his book that is was based on a script by Fleming, McClory and Whittingham.
When Broccoli and Saltzman bought the movie rights for all the Bond novels, they couldn't get Casino Royale (it was already sold for TV) nor Thunderball.
So Danjaq only owns the right to the 007 gun logo, the gun barrel opening sequence and the Bond music. They do not own the rights of the characters nor the premise of a Bond movie. But every time McClory wanted to use his rightful ownership to the movie rights of Thunderball, danjaq started a legal battle against him.
Never wondered why Ernst Stavro Blofeld and SPECTER were never used in the later Bond movies? Danjaq doesn't have the rights to that character and that organization since they were created in ThunderBall.
Personally, I was a Roger Moore fan before I ever saw a Bond movie. I loved the actor in The Saint and The Persuaders. Yet I must admit that he starred in only 2 decent Bond movies. Only The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only were good. Moore's other Bond movies were poor to say the least.
However Never Say Never Again was probably the best Bond movie to come out of the 1980's. Yes, it felt strange to have a Bond movie without the Bond theme, the gun barrel opening and a pre-titles sequence. But it wasn't filled with stupid gags like Octopussy was (Bond doing a Tarzan scream anyone?)
And it starred Kim Bassinger!

I still stand by what I said NSNA is a dreadful film, like dipping into a box of luxury chocolates and finding them all melted. The sex scene with Sean and Barbara Carrera(Fatima Blush) is laughable! Most real Bond fans give it a wide berth-even if it has Kim Bassinger.

Whenever I buy a book about the Bond movies and it doesn't mention the 1950's TV version of Casino Royale, the 1960's comedy version of Casino Royale and NSNA, I consider the book's writer(s) to be either biassed or payed by Ion/Danjaq to promote their movies.
Same thing for websites and their webmasters.

I think that the new version of Casino Royale is quite a good film in its own right, but is is NOT a James Bond film. The famous Bond music doesn't appear until right at the end for gods sake. Do the producers think that they can get away with changing the format that has proved commercially successful for over 40 years? If I knew who to write to I would have asked for my money back, sorry to go on but I am a Bond fan.

I have to agree that "Casino Royale is quite a good film in its own right" and that it was definitely not a classic bond film, but it was supposed to show how Bond evolved into the Bond we came to know. In the beginning of the film he was more of a Bruce Willis than a Sean Connery, but as the movie progressed he learned and grew until the last scene when he is standing in his tailored suit over Mr. White and says to him, "The name is Bond, James Bond." with the Bond music in the background.
Hopefully this means that in Bond 22 scheduled for release in November 2008 we will find the sophisticated Bond we all knew. However, I personally hope it doesn't degenerate into the forced one-liners that we heard in the previous Bond movies. I was getting a little tired of it.
Here they seem to have achieved a combination of action and character development that could be the ticket for re-doing all of the Bond Films again, which I would like to see.
(Just in case you haven't heard about it yet, the next Bond film is supposed to start up two minutes from where this one ended and Bond goes after the organization responsible for everything that happened in the first one. Who knows, it could be SPECTRE.

for me personally i was glad to find casino royale so different. like other posts have said the old format was getting tired. nice to see that daniel craig proved a lot of people wrong by shining in the role. only time will tell of course, but for my money this could be the start of something exciting and keep us watching the films for many more years. pierce and sean were great, but time moves on, and so must the franchise. i am a real bond fan, can name most the villians, girls, cars, etc, but even i can see that bond cannot stay in the sixties. from other forums ive read i also note that people have said this style of bond movie is more true to how fleming wrote his books, but not having read them myself i will remain neutral on that issue.

The re-boots/cast changes in Bond always go 'back to basics' - three films in, Craig will be driving invisible cars in space again, and then the casting call goes out...
I am a huge fan of Craig himself, and I think he gave a superb performance in Royale, but I also think he was wrong for the role. The short hair makes him look like a thug (check out The Invasion to see him looking a bit more intelligent) and for ruggedness he makes Connery look like Clary. I'd actually like to see him abandon the part before it affects his 'regular' career too badly.

Lana Wood are my all time favourites.Lana has a fantastic figure, all women should be created in her mould lo
I got to see Ms Wood last year at a movie convention. She was a real delightful person, and had some interesting stories about making "Diamonds".
The short hair makes him look like a thug
If you read the books, you'll see that Fleming's original take on him was that yes, he was a thug. The movies turned him around.
And I'm with you Greenman- to me, the original Casino Royale& Never Say Never Again are separate categories from the EON productions. I may be a snob, but I like to group items appropriately. ;)

You missed the point, the music was perfectly done, perfect. He wasnt the Bond we knew, he had to experience the full horro of what it meant to become a 00. The music at the end signified one thing: his rite of passage was over, Bond, is back.
Anyway we are drifting here: my fave is Caroline Munro, 1 because she is so sexy, and two the helo chase is my all time fave Bond scene.

wow, amazing post flea, of the amazing Caroline Cossey
(Tula is such a stupid name )
Just thinking that Amanda Lear would have made a great Bond girl
(and there were rumours about her too.)
She would have been great opposite Roger Moore, perhaps
playing a 60s dolly bird... on the club scene, but all the time shes a Russian agent
She lures James into her flat for drinks. Hes just about to get his oats when these Russian guys grab him,
tie him up and crate him onto a plane to Moscow
He wakes up in a penthouse flat.....the prisoner
of Amanda and her Russian Hoods.

Eh, I may be prejudiced, but the fact that Tula was originally a man turns me off.
Caroline "Tula" Cossey (born August 31, 1954, in Brooke, Norfolk), is an English model. Born Barry Kenneth Cossey, she is one of the world's most well known transsexual people and the first to ever pose for Playboy. Since being "outed" by British tabloid News of the World, Cossey has fought for her right to legally marry a man and to be recognized by the law as a woman.
Second set, picture #20- this girl is Robbin Young. She won a contest in Playboy to have a bit part in the movie For Your Eyes Only. She played the salesgirl in the flower shop. I thought that was the end of it, but apparently not! Some more photos of her here on IMDB:

As to Tula(Caroline Cossey) being born a man-so what! She looks all woman to me, the only thing is she will always be a man on her passport because the Government refuse to recognise that fact-shame really, she wrote a book and had a good career-I think she is a brave woman-and as a woman she is gorgeous. Now had she/he become a hermaphrodite (part woman, part man) then I think my view might change and thats not a prejudicial view btw.

I like to read books. So consequently when I was 12, 13, 14 years I read all of Ian Flemings 007 novels (the big and the short stories). This was cheaper than cinema, because I could lend them from the library.
Later I saw most Bond movies in the theatre or on video with friends. I must say, I was a bit disappointed from the movies in contrast to the books. For me the books were more dramatically and the enemy was not always Blofeld and it was not always the entire world at stake and so much high tech gadgets around. In the books Bond has more dimensions as a person then in the movies and he is vulnerable.
Sure the so called Bond girls were exciting. First I remember this russian female spy from “the spy who loved me”, she had this beautiful big eyes and special lips, and I dreamed about her. I think her name was nadia, but I’m not sure anymore!

What I’d like to know from you Bond fans:
Did you read the novels (you have the language advantage), at what age did you read them or watch the movies and how do you see the differences between the books and movies.
And please add your list
My favorite book: Operation Thunderball
My favorite movie: Goldfinger
My favorite oponent actor: Gerd Foebe as Auric Goldfinger
My favorite Bond girl:Barbara Bach and naturally Ursula Andress (she is swiss and very sexy)
My favorite Bond actor: Sean Connory
My favorite Bond car: The old Aston Martin DB 5 (silver color)
My favorite Bond line: “My name is Bond, James Bond!!!!”
My first 3 movies in cinema:
-Moonraker (August 1979)
-For your eyes only (June 1981)
-The spy who loved me (reprise)

In you only live twice I remember reading a lot about Japan
and its complex culture.
You got the feeling that Fleming had really
done his homework and put a lot of effort and research into the book.
Also you realized Japan is a lot more than just the soundbytes you get on TV.
Those film guys don t mess about either, in just 6 weeks
they had all the location filming in Japan wrapped up.
All they had to do then was fill in with some studio footage
get Nancy to sing the title song....
and the movie was ....."in the can "
Sorted !
PS
I think the pic Bellsmyre is of Catherine Bach (Ringos wife )

First James Bond film I saw was Dr No in late 1964 or early 65 -the later films were never as good as that one as they veered further and further away from the original novels and emphasised the high tech gadget nonsense..
I read most of the novels at that time [I was in my early teens] The first one I read was "From Russia With Love" - I recall thinking that Fleming's Bond was colder and much more ruthless than that portrayed in the films.
If I was to pick a favourite of the novels I'd opt for "The Spy Who Loved Me" - It's written in a different style from the other books, [first person perspective of the main female character], and emphasises the almost thuggish brutality of Bond.
I haven't read an Ian Fleming novel for 40 years - I must read one now and see what the
slightly more grown up me thinks.
Have you read the novels in English or translated versions [or both]??
As much as I know was Dr No the first Bond film and naturally it's one of the best besides Goldfinger because of Ursula Andress and Sean Connory. I think Dr No was in b/w, wasn't it?
For me it's interesting, that we both were attached to the 007 novels in our early teens. I think I was fascinated by Bonds consequence in fullfilling his mission and all the adventures he lived through. And in the books you really belive, there is danger and he faces it!
I haven't touched no Bond novel in over 20 years (at that age I could not yet read english), but I think I'll buy me "Thunderball" now in original!
I'll have a look at eBay!

You and Bellsmyre46 both bring up some very interesting and astute points regarding the James Bond cultural mythology vis a vis the differences between the books and the movies--both in overall plot and in the sharply different characterizations of Bond. I picked up my first Fleming Bond novel at around 11-12 yrs old--coincidentally, also "From Russia with Love" which I hadn't seen the film of yet.
This was back in the days when all TV was 3 lousy networks, and the ABC Sunday Night Movie ran James Bond all summer long. I had been a big Bond fan probably since I was 8-10 yrs old, and at that age Roger Moore was the coolest motherfucker I'd ever seen in my life, and the obtuse scifi appeal of "Mooonraker" was perfectly pitched to a kid my age. So when I read "From Russia.." I was sorta shocked by how different the written Bond was--not as "cool", but definitely more dangerous. But then, his villains were more dangerous too, and quite cunningly NEVER explained the entire evil plan to our hero since "you're about to die anyway, Mr. Bond..." or that sort of thing.
I won't say I "got it" right away, but I did immediately achieve an admiration for the greater literary integrity of Connery's Bond, especially in the earliest films like "Dr. No". The cheesy sci-fi set pieces, goofy one-liners, and often ridiculous gadgetry was still entertaining, but no longer satisfied. The more realistic, gritty Bond who became less human with every kill, who tried ever harder to bury his soul-sickness underneath the weight of top shelf liquor and anonymous pussy and was never really sure that he could win the day deeply and fundamentally altered my concept of heroism.
Those points are exactly why I so enjoyed the recent "Casino Royale", because we got to see a Bond onscreen who was closer to that idea than anything we've seen since the first 2 or 3 films. Another factor is the overall "maturing" of filmgoing audiences, such that directors and producers now recognize that a flawed, "human" hero can connect to a modern cinema audience better than a 2-dimensional one, and allow the directors and writers to express this much more than in the past. As proof, I can point out how the "indestructible" box office action heroes of the 80's and early 90's (Schwarzenegger, Stallone, etc) suddenly seemed to lose their massive appeal, and more complex characters who could actually get HURT were being faced of against villains who were often smarter and better-equipped than they were (the 1st "Die Hard" is a perfect example to mark the beginning of this cultural shift).
OK, rant off. Sorry, I really tried to stay out of this because I knew if I got started I wouldn't shut up. I'm a huge Bond fan--so much so that I once even managed to convince a college professor to let me write my thesis on Bond. Believe me, I could keep going! I'll try not to bore you fine folks anymore with this overwritten nonsense. After all, this IS a forum for pornography, not film theory!
So on that note, I can cite one thing about Bond that is actually relevant to this forum: Pussy Galore wasn't just a name, it was her personal mission! HUGE man-hating lesbian she was--if you read between the lines just a little--and only James Bond had the phallic power to overwhelm her and convert her back to cock, with plenty left over to kick Auric Goldfinger's ass as well.
'Nuff said! Read this if you don't believe me:

As the view of a hero got more complex as much bring your thoughts more complexity and realism into this thread-I could listen to you for another hour or two!
Just as a question I made myself because I forgot too much from the novels:
Why does Bond what he does, what is his inner motor; you said it: all this killing and the violent death of his wife touched him. And Bond is too smart only to follow orders. They selected him, because he is one of the best for this job!
Somehow he likes what he does, the gambling on the edge, the adrenalin! And he is aware that those who command him, would sink in a day in his missions and they know it! Maybe it's his destiny to do that job, because no one else can?

i SEEM to remember reading a book that was all about
bond and ian fleming etc
at the end of the book the author said he picked up one
of the foolscap sheets he d been writing on and held it to
the light
there was a watermark..........' Bond extra strong.'........
I bet Ian Flemming was chuffed at the fabulous success of the bond movies
though he was , by then, at the end of his life.
Pity he did nt live to reap the huge rewards he deserved.
After all, his novels have created a movie cult ... and its still going !

Another funny line:
I try to translate from the german movie I saw in cinema to english, and I'd like to know if in the original english version Bond makes the same joke?
As I remember it was in "diamonds are forever" (book good, movie disastrous) where a gay killer several times tries to kill Bond. Because he is gay, he weres a revealing aftershave. In the final scene Bond eates dinner in a vessel with his girl. The servant is the disguised killer; he put a bomb in the trolley. Bond recognizes him from the smell and they fight for life. At last Bond throws him overboard with the bomb; he explodes in the air.
Bond (Moore): "That dog it has torn with a squeezed in tail!":)

For me these statements are no coincidence!:
I picked up my first Fleming Bond novel at around 11-12 yrs old--coincidentally, also "From Russia with Love".
I read most of the novels at that time [I was in my early teens] The first one I read was "From Russia With Love" - I recall thinking that Fleming's Bond was colder and much more ruthless than that portrayed in the films.
I like to read books. So consequently when I was 12, 13, 14 years I read all of Ian Flemings 007 novels.
I was not alone, when I read the 007 novels, there were friends at school, guys in the same age and with the same exiting feelings of an awakening sexuality: we wanted to be like Bond and wanted to have his adventures. And we were convinced, that with his bravery we could impress the girls we fantasized about. Getting into cinema at this age was not always easy. I’m astonished myself: I made a little research and found out I was ten when I saw “Moonraker” (if it was not a reprise one or two years later)! I remember it was summer holidays and I was hanging around with the guys from the neighborhood which were one, two years older than me. We went there Saturday evening when the ticket office was very crowded and sellers had few time to check your age. This was real adventure! But it was as said by amfan, more like “star wars” and I can’t remember the Bond girls; I do remember this clumsy giant “biter” with his metallic teeth!
And then at the age of fourteen I saw “The Spy Who Loved Me” as a reprise (originally from 1977). I don’t remember much from the movie, but I do remember Barbara Bach as Anja Amasova!!! She was so breathtakingly beautyful! She had this brown complexion, these big eyes with that bedroom look that makes your heart beat and this sensouos lips; not to mention her long brown hair. She made you feel you wanted to protect her and on the other side she was a well trained dangerous spy! This mix of emotions created an amazing tension: The story was not very important anymore, I was awaiting the next scene she appeared in. And funily I was attracted to find out more about russians, against all the teaching that they were the evil!
The next days I often phantasized about her, she was present in my mind. All this strong impression was created only by her screen presence without any nudity or explicit sexuality! And the same holds for the novels: all the danger Bond goes through in your fantasy push your curiosity for his sexual adventures: he gets all the girls and at a young age you’re really impressed by him as a role model!

I remember seeing the first Bond film at the cinema-"Live and Let Die" with Roger Moore, then I saw the rest of them over the years. When JAWS appeared in "The Spy Who Loved Me" one of my schoolfriends yelled out "I bet he didn't use Signal 2"(a toothpaste) which of course got a big laugh. I didn't find the women that much of a turn on until I discovered Page 3 girls and then they appeared in "For Your Eyes Only," "A View To A Kill," and "Octopussy"; after that they stopped using them as the PC brigade (Political Correctness) wanted Bond to be more aware of the sexual revolution going on where people who slept around were more in danger of Aids etc. In that respect Bond would have been riddled with STD(Sexually Transmitted Diseases) the amount of women he had sex with. Maybe though it is good that his sex scenes don't go too far to make it more credible.

There are several rumours going around that Olga could return in the third Bond film but it will be different from the avenge/revenge double openers just made. I saw Quantum of Solace last week and I can highly recommend it and if you liked the Bourne Trilogy (Identity, Supremacy, Ultimatum) then you will like this. I also think the next Bond will return to the usual elements including gadgets, girls and hopefully a Q or R although Dame Judi Dench is a doubt at the moment for M!!

I am sure that is here already but if not I shall reiterate.
Tula's real name is Caroline Cossey but in the eyes of the law she is still classified as a man. She wrote a book about her experiences and also tried to get the law changed, but so far no success even though she has had all the necessary operations etc-so to call her a lady-boy bond is erroneous(oops sorry, I mean wrong) In fact to look at her you would never know if you hadn't read it or been told.
I post these so you can make up your own mind, but lets face it, she is no hermaphrodite.
She was born with XXY chromosomes. Not XY like a man or XX like a woman. Makes most people slightly effeminate with smaller genitalia.

The silhouette girls were never credited but some of the more well known ones are Joni Flynn, Anna Noble, Penelope Smallbone(aka Perry Small)-they used her name for the character that took over as the new Moneypenny for A View to a Kill and it is purported that one was Corinne Russell (although I have not seen any proof of this) and another could be Sian Adey-Jones. There used to be a strong link between Page 3 girls and Bond, but that ended with 'Octopussy.'

What I’d like to know from you Bond fans:
Did you read the novels (you have the language advantage), at what age did you read them or watch the movies and how do you see the differences between the books and movies.
Here it is a year later and I just found this post and wanted to reply to it. I read the Bond books beginning in the 60s and into the 70s. My favorite Bond film is still Dr. No, because it really shows the nature of James Bond. My take on Bond has always been that he is a thug, with a veneer of sophistication that makes him appear to be suave. Underneath that veneer, he is a killer. The movies became jokes with the one-liners and ridiculous gadgets. Sean Connery had the rough edge to be the best Bond. Roger Moore was too prissy to be believable as either Bond or Simon Templar, the Saint. (I've also read many of the original Saint books from the 30s and 40s. The Saint was also an occasional cold-blooded killer when he felt someone deserved it.)

I never read any of the novels but I do remember reading an article about Fleming's version of Bond-he wanted actor Edward Purdom to be Bond btw-and he described Bond as a ruthless killer and womaniser and didn't really approve of Sean Connery but then if you were in a fight you'd want him on your side. Roger was good in a way, made a little less violent although sometimes it was a little too jokey(see Octopussy and his 'Barbara Woodhouse "SIT!" to a tiger and the TARZAN yell as he swings from a vine-2 truly cringeworthy scenes).
Like The Saint, Bond was a killer but he did care about things including saving the world and his friends-see Dr No where he is genuinely upset about the savage death of Quarrel at the hands of the flame-throwing 'dragon'(tank). I remember seeing my first film which was "Live and Let Die" around 1974-5(in those days films would hang around a lot longer in cinemas and sometimes be re-released) and I didn't like the voodoo motif throughout the film. The next one I saw was "The Spy Who Loved Me" about 1978 or so and I was in love with Barbara Bach(at 12) she was so gorgeous and made one of the best Bond girls around.
Since then I have seen every Bond film, except 2007 Casino Royale because no one wanted to go with me to see it :( but it was a return to the real Bond beginnings, no gadgets or babes just a good story of how he became a 00 agent. I do feel however that the next one should have the return of R(took over from Q) and the gadgets.

My calling Bond a killer was not meant as a slight in any way. It's what you're willing to kill for that matters. In the words of Winston Churchill, "We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm."

Anyone ever had a fantasy about one of the Bond girls and another person? I'll give a little bit for right now and see if there are any other interest.
For example, in the movie 'Diamonds Are Forever' there is the scene at the casino where Plenty O'Toole goes up stairs with Sean Connery, and they start making out. They separate and in the movie she ends up out the window into the pool. Okay, so here is where fantasy took over...
In the bedroom was Jill St. John laying on the bed waiting for Sean. What if Sean wasn't the one who entered the bedroom?
It got very... kinky after that.
Anyone else have anything like that?
Just wondering.

Most Bond websites (and most Star Trek, Star Wars, etc. websites) are fanmade. And fans don't really care about a Bond movie being made or sanctioned by Danjaq or not.
Actually Danjaq has finally acquired the rights to both the David Niven Casino Royale and NSNA (any time there's a Bond marathon here in the States, NSNA is often included). I agree that NSNA is a much better film than Octopussy, and not just because Connery is still so much fun to watch (though he doesn't have particularly fond memories of the actual filming), and while both the American TV adaption and the spoof of Casino Royale should be considered in any objective history of the series, they are both still so uneven, and so far outside the popular series formula (though in both cases the actual chemin de fer game is a high point...Peter Lorre is a magnificently creepy Le Chiffre, and the interplay between Orson Welles and Peter Sellers is excellent) that it doesn't surprise me that most fans would prefer to ignore them. Thanks for your reasoned comments and information.

Real life is much stranger than fiction in many cases... including the reaction between skin and various chemical compounds. Plain spirit gum used to affix facial prosthetics in movie costuming has no effect on some people and literally causes flesh to wither away on others... a dramatic and apparently unpredictable allergic reaction. People for centuries have handled compounds willy-nilly disregarding risk; the theory has been raised that both Vincent Van Gogh's unique vision of the world and his subsequent self-destructive behavior was due to his becoming poisoned by the lead compounds that were in the oil paints he mixed by hand.
But as to the specific issue of completely covering the skin, it does carry a significant risk. The skin is primarily responsible for protecting and regulating temperature for our bodies. By sealing the pores, the skin is robbed of the ability to do that, and fairly rapidly it would get extremely hot. When this happens, it inhibits the functioning of the body's enzymes which are responsible for the molecular reactions that make it possible for the body to use the oxygen that the lungs are providing. Result: death. Not technically suffocation, although the net effect would be much the same. (paraphrased from the MedSci Network)

One interesting fact is the golden girl in the opening credits of Goldfinger was done by Margaret Nolan (Dink). Shirley Eton was too flat chested to do the part.
One comment I have to make regarding those calling themselves Bond fans. There are two types, the book and the movie fans. Due to legalities and restrictions put on by Fleming, the movies could only use the titles and very loose storylines, hence the movies are nothing like the books. For true Bond fans Roger Moore was a buffoon and those so called movies he was in are worse than nothing at all. Now with the upsurge and return to the original Bond character Casino Royale and its sequel Quantum of Solace hopefully will pave the way for those movies to be done properly.

I did actually know this, I have an extensive list of every Bond girl that ever appeared in all the films including the last one-I turned over two pages:D so thanks for pointing that out to me.
The Bond titles often feature models, naked and in silhouette, and I'm sure several P*g*3 girls appeared - mostly unrecognisable, but it seems Corinne Russell was in the Octopussy titles, but, I think I also saw Janine Andrews in an oddly well lit segment of For your eyes only (unless it was Kim Mills who did have a poolside cameo in the actual film)

For the ultimate Bond treat I highly recommend that you go to a search engine and look up "Never Say McClory Again". You'll find the most skillful fan edit I've ever seen. The editor restructured the whole film to make it look like a traditional James Bond production. All of the original music has been tossed out, rescored with music from other Bond films (with the all-important inclusion of the Monty Norman Bond theme). A gun barrel opening has been restored. The editor even made his own silhouette-style opening credits, set to the Shirley Bassey/Propellorheads tune "History Repeating".
My wife and I watched this last year, after which I turned to her and said, "Well, I might as well throw out my Never Say Never Again DVD, because from now on this is the only way I'm watching this film."

You're welcome. The only other thing I know about Maggie's career is that she was the girl on a tropical island in one of the Bounty chocolate bar adverts before her Bond appearance, after which I think she retired from modelling/acting. I looked it up per your instructions but, forgive my ignorance, I'm not clear what I'm supposed to do to view the fan edit version.
Do I have to buy it? Can I download it free?
I didn't see an explanation on the page. Can you clarify?
All of the content on that page is free. If you can access this page:
http://fanedit.info/TFj-n.html
All you have to do is go to the line for "JAMES BOND 007: NEVER SAY MCCLORY AGAIN BY BLOFELDS CAT" and look to the right side of the page. There is a link that says "NTSC". Click on that and a rar file will download. Open up the rar file and you see a file that is called:
blofeldscat_jamesbond_neverSMCA_NTSC_SL_DVD.dlc
Make sure that JDownloader is open and done updating, and then click on that file (or double-click; whatever your settings have you do to open a file). The .dlc file will automatically load into JDownloader, where you can then tell it to begin downloading.
That file is hosted on the Rapidshare site, so if you don't have a membership it will probably take an entire day to download (it is, after all, a full DVD file, not just a video). If you're premium, it doesn't take very long. I tested it the other day when I mentioned the link, and it's still working. As I said before, I'm not the person who put the file on the web.
I know it's a hassle to download the files this way, but you have to understand that Fanedit.info (where you find the links) and Fanedit.org (where you find the detailed information on the movies) aren't download sites. A lot of these movies (the above one included) are presented as full DVDs, complete with menus. There's no way a free site could host hundreds of files that are more than 4 Gigabytes each. That's why they just include the links to direct you to the proper file hosting locations.
I guess I should also mention that if you don't know how to load and burn a DVD file, it probably isn't worth downloading it. But learning isn't a big deal. Five years ago I had no idea how to handle such files, and now I can burn pretty much anything that I come across.

All of the content on that page is free. If you can access this page:

There it is, ripped from the iso file and converted to an mpg. Should be viewable on any computer (and can still be burned to a DVD).
[NOTE: Now a friend from another forum has informed me that because the file is larger than 1GB, only premium members of Megaupload can get to it. I KNEW I should have split it up and posted it with my Rapidshare account, but everyone's always complaining about Rapidshare, so I though "No, I'll be a nice guy." Well, that came back to bite me on the butt...]
Enjoy, anyone who is interested, and who can get the file.

Here, then, is the film divided into neat little pieces...
You can join with hjsplit or other combining program.
PT,
Thanks for doing this. I'm new at the "joining" process and have not yet picked up a program for doing it.
From your 12-part posting I just obtained Part One (001) but can't view it by itself. When I try, I get a message that says the file is "not compressed or encoded." Does this mean I have to download all 12 segments before I can watch?

Yes, download all of the parts, then use a program called hjsplit to join the parts together. It's a free program. You can find it here:

I did a test download, and the program is still there. Just download it, install it, and then use it to join the files. After that, the reassembled movie should play just fine.

Agreed she was a beauty, but when she was cast as the lesbian commander in 'From Russia With Love' they deliberately made her look dowdy. If I remember correctly she was in the Threepenny Opera-written by Kurt Weill, the one with MacHeath the murderer, and of course her name became synonymous with that ending up being name-checked by Louis Armstrong in his version of the song 'Mack the Knife' " suki tawdry, jenny diver, lotte lenya, sweet lucy brown"

Apparently, Mie Hama was nude in a Japanese film called 'Suna No Kaori' in 1968 that was released in the US as 'The Night of the Seagull' in 1970 and as 'A sirály éjszakája' in Hungary in 1972. Seems like it was giving people what they wanted shortly after You Only Live Twice but I can't get hold of the film and haven't seen any pics anywhere. I'm not sure if this is okay for here but it's the best place I think for this and doesn't really warrant its own thread: If not then move to appropriate place please.
There is to be a John Barry Memorial Concert on Monday 20th June, at the Royal Albert Hall with music from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Special guests so far are composer David Arnold, Dame Shirley Bassey, Don Black(lyricist), Alfie Boe, Sir Michael Caine, Timothy Dalton, Sir George Martin(Beatles producer), Sir Michael Parkinson, Sir Tim Rice(lyricist) and Rumer(new singer). All profits will go to the John Barry Scholarship for Film Composition at the Royal College of Music.

I've had a look at the girls, I am not sure which film it is from because at the moment I don't recognise those particular girls but my best guess is 'Octopussy'. I will try and ID them for you if I can-one guess on the girl in mauve is Joni Flynn-but not 100% sure, profile pictures of girls are notoriously difficult to identify.
I was thinking Moore looked a bit too young for that to be an Octopussy publicity pic. Of course, the wonders of makeup shouldn't be underestimated...

Mr Bond: In 1979 I was a kid so MOONRAKER seemed futuristic to me especially with the Space Shuttles launches-however I think it was an attempt to be a bit more of a science-fiction based story - having never read the original story I can only guess the writers took their cues from the very first Space Shuttle launch which was due later in the year it was released. All Bond is far-fetched, but it was logical to go into space having been underwater in "The Spy Who Loved Me," but then meglomaniacs try to take over the world in any shape or form. I happen to think that 'MOONRAKER' was one of the best, for girls if nothing else although only being 13 I was more taken with the car that turned into a submarine :D

The Spy Who Loved Me.... 1977 ....
was shown on UK TV last weekend, Barbara Bach was perfection
as James Bond s other half, and Rodge really looked the part of Bond,
looking back now he begins to be maybe the greatest of them all !

Lois Maxwell once said that she would always want Roger Moore on her side but in a fight would find Sean Connery more reliable-Moore didn't look much of a bruiser whereas the later Bonds could do ladies man and fighter with a lot more ease. I half expected Roger to fight off the villains whilst sipping his usual Vodka Martini(shaken not stirred) whereas Connery, Dalton, Brosnan & Craig would probably down their pints fast and then get brawling. I agree Barbara Bach was one of the most beautiful Bond girls ever, especially in that split thigh dress she wore-as a kid of just 11 even I sat up and took notice ;) Don't forget 'Moonraker' this Saturday which has one of the best collections of beautiful women in any Bond.

On another forum I read that Rodger said... if a fight breaks out in
a bar and chairs were flying , Id be down under the table,
I never stand up at the bar anyway .. I sit down when I have a drink..
.....or something like that... the debate was about Olly Reed who often got into fights standing at the bar
In real life, compared to Olly, Rodger looked a bit of a wimp.
But on screen, in The Spy Who Loved Me Rodger looks very fit, handsome, sauve... great voice, he was a brilliant Bond and I think
probably now the favorite Bond of most people.

Roger(no D incidentally) also hates guns, he said as such in an interview for the TVTimes back then but no one is doubting his suave and sophisticatedness as Bond and let's face it he pulled Barbara, Britt and Maud amongst others :D A lot of people found the jokey style a bit much which really came to a head in 'Octopussy'. The "sit!" command to a tiger was funny but not many people got the joke(based on an instruction by the late Barbara Woodhouse, a dog trainer with unusual methods) and it wasn't wanted in the film. Incidentally I still can't watch poor old Vejay Amritraj getting cut in half by that saw-toothed yo-yo although that is always cut when shown on television. Didn't do his reputation any harm.

the hi tech of the studios... (studios specially built for the Bond movies I guess ...)

i was thinking the exact opposite while watching the scene in TMWTGG last week... thinking how weak the supposed graphic tracking display of bond's plane while looking for scaramanga/miss goodnight, somewhere in the red china sea....... the technology these days would be far more worthy of the fleming stories...... i recall that in the recent CR, craig's sony phone (i have the same model) had brilliant tracking graphics, making this plane's ones look even worse......
but speilberg has been asked to remake Jaws many times... but he says it will never happen in his lifetime..... he prefers to leave it as it was made.... a classic.... cant argue with the man i suppose... he is the true genius of his era. (as hitchcock was of his)

I think Alien was filmed at the Albert R Broccoli 007 sound stage as well as Superman II that's pretty sci-fi wouldn't you say. The stage was the largest in Europe at the time(may well still be) and was improved to my mind tenfold. Most unusual for it to burn down twice in its lifetime but again it survived and like a phoenix rose from the ashes to make more Bond films. Moonraker's main space sequences were shot in France btw.

I guess that Cubby Broccoli must have been the major force in
getting the Bond movies on the screen .. Im not that well up on
the Bond history, but Ive noticed so often an obsession with water,
pools full of sharks and pyrana...etc, cars that turn into submarines...
water and the sea loom large in lots of Bond movies,
I wonder was it Cubby who had this fascination
and gave this theme to so many Bond movies ?
Greenman

Yes true some Bond movies featured water but then again you could add snow and the obligatory sight gags ( Moore opens window of Lotus and drops a fish out in TSWLMe) there was a formula and it was probably a case of if it works, keep doing it. Not many cars did transformations like the Lotus, offhand the only other one I can think of was Scaramanga's car that transformed into a plane in TMWTGGun and that stretched credibility whereas you could believe a car would become a submarine-of course it was clever editing and use of models small and large thanks to the brilliance of Derek Meddings(former Thunderbirds stalwart) and his last model making genius can be seen in 'Goldeneye'- he died before the film was released. The piranha and sharks just added to the menace of the villain-in reality sharks would not attack without some provocation and the piranha does not go mad and strip a man to bone in seconds-they are in fact placid creatures-but I still wouldn't put my hand in a tank of them :D I don't think it was Cubby remember he was drawing on the mind of Ian Fleming and nothing says danger more than sharks, piranhas, and spiders!
Just remembered this-Terrence Longden, very good actor and British stalwart of comedy and drama died this week but what made me read his obituary more was the fact that he was married to Barbara Jefford-now that name seemed to ring a bell and I was right, she used to dub Bond girls like Daniela Bianchi and Caroline Munro for the Bond movies along with Nikki van Zyl.

Dont you notice a kind of pattern emerging ?
like say in the George Lazenby movie ... On her Majesty's Secret Service...
Bond is in London to get his new instructions from M , he has a bit of banter with Miss Moneypenny, we get a few shots of Imperial London...
then the story shifts to the Mediterranean... to beaches, to casinos...
to glamorous women.........
Kind of the same pattern in The Saint.... the suave English agent,
Simon Templar, but then all the action is down on the Cote D'azur
The Persuaders TV series ditto
( probably the same team making it all ! )
In other words the Bond movies are made in Britain, with a British writer, British star etc, but they cant wait to hi tail it down to the Med.... France, Italy and all points south.

This is sometimes known as a gambit-Terry Nation, creator of the Daleks and Doctor Who was drafted in to US tv and did this for a number of tv series. In the case of the Bond films, the pattern has always been, an opening title sequence, then the credits and then the opening scenes in London to prove he is British (as you said)-same also could be said for The Saint(Roger Moore). In his case it was always made in England and like the Champions as well was shot mainly here-never making it past Elstree Studios(the Champions' Nemesis headquarters in Geneva was in reality an old Ever Ready battery building in North London and the famous Geneva spout superimposed in the background) Bond is bigger budget stuff so sticks to a set pattern...after all it's what makes him uniquely British(except Lazenby of course who was Australian) :)

It doesn't need to be in alphabetical order it is listing the girls in order of their appearance in the film or at least the main ones come first then the minor ones and it is film order. I wouldn't worry about what it looks like or whether it is in order alphabetically :)

Yes,thats right. She doubled for Mie Hama in the underwater seens.Aparently it was just by chance she was visiting the set that day and Mie couldnt swim so she put on a black wig and filmed the shots that were needed.

Dame Judi Dench(M of course) has received the Freedom of the City
of London for her services to acting at a ceremony conducted at the Guildhall.
Dame Judi was said to be "honoured" and looked forward to the perks allowed her
which in olden days would allow you to drive your sheep over London Bridge and
occasionally wear a sword in public. The Freedom is offered by the City of
London Corporation to celebrate a significant achievement.
And to add a bit more it is looking like her year as Dame Judi has also just
been given the highest accolade that the British Film Institute can bestow
to an actor-namely she has received the Fellowship of the BFI(not to be confused
with the BAFTA Fellowship Award) in recognition of her contribution to cinema
and television. She said "For someone who was told in 1959 that they would never
make it in the film industry I feel incredibly surprised and privileged to be
receiving this fellowship."
Altogether now ... "there is nothing like a Dame, nothing in the world, there is
nothing you can name that is anything like a Dame!" :)

Christopher Wood adapted two James Bond novels for the screen: The Spy Who Loved Me 1977 ( with Richard Maibaum) and Moonraker (1979).
He was the first author to write novelizations of Bond films.
His novelization of The Spy Who Loved Me, renamed James Bond, The Spy Who Loved Me to avoid confusion with Ian Fleming's original novel, has nothing in common with the Fleming book.
Similarly, the plot of Moonraker, renamed' James Bond and Moonraker', is almost entirely written by Wood, although it does share some similarities with Fleming's original novel, in particular the villain Sir Hugo Drax. Bond fans generally rate Wood's novelizations highly.
This guy is also responsible for the Confessions novels, which went on to spawn the Confessions Movies.
He also wrote saucy novels in first person with the non de plume ... Rosie Dixon !
( try as I may , Ive not been able to find a pic of this interesting (and prolific ) guy ! )

On the subject of Bond Girls, a little factoid for you all-did you know that it was Roald Dahl(author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory & other kids books) that came up with the premise of the 3 girls that would be in the Bond films from You Only Live Twice(of which he wrote the screenplay). One would start hating him, and end up loving him, and survive; one would be killed off midway just before he had the chance to follow up any amorous ends and a third would be the bad girl who turned out to be a goodie but would meet a grisly end like Mayday(Grace Jones) for example who saved the Mine from being blown up in 'A View To A Kill' but blew herself up in the process to get back at her ex-lover Max Zorin.

Also James Bond film stars will be on tour appearing at UK locations used in the Bond films to mark the 50th Anniversary of the franchise. The tour is called the 007 Days of Bond - The locations Eilean Donan Castle-Scotland, Penbryn Beach-Wales, and Stoke Park-England.
Still no news as to whether Sir Sean Connery has had a change of heart to appear in the 50th Anniversary being planned but he looked pretty frail when he turned up to watch Andy Murray in the US Open Tennis Final at Flushing Meadow, USA on Sunday. Perhaps he will make some sort of contribution for without him, you can't really do an Anniversary. Here's hoping.

All Bond films hold their own, but it was clearly time to change its content for the current modern, politically correct friendly era, and need to be more serious about such films. Can't have those pesky yanks taking over with the likes of Jason Bourne now, can we..!!?? lol.

The problem is : what does James Bond in modern times ?
Bond is a character from the Cold War. He had to stay in the period.
But to make money, the producers sold the soul of OO7 in seventies.
One purpose : to appeal to new generations. To make money over and over again.
The last Bond film worthy of the name is On her majesty's secret service.
After that, it was only a question of money.
The latest movies with Craig are great movies. But not Bond films.
See the master film : Dr No.
See the last Craig.
Do you see the difference ?
This is my opinion. Just my opinion.
The 6 first Bond films were unique. Their style, their gender, their periods.
Today, films as the last Bond film are many.
This is my opinion. Just my opinion.
The opinion of a man who was in a theater the first day of Dr No, in 62.
An old fan.

I disagree I think the relevance of Bond to reality is nothing compared to the master spy's world. It was a lot different back in the days of the Cold War, at least you knew who the enemy was (Russians, Chinese etc), how to track them down and for all their machinations and weird hideouts the one thing that had to be done was to destroy and eliminate. Fast forward 30 years into the 90s and the film True Lies came closer to being a true Bond film. All the far-fetched storylines of the Connery & Moore era(space battles, underwater cities and meglomaniacs who want to rule the world) were gone and in their place were better storylines, plots and villains that could be believable even if their lairs were still outlandish.
Take gadgetry. With cameras in most mobile phones who would have a spy camera no bigger than a tube of Smarties would become a regular piece of kit let alone a phone that fits in your pocket. Q' Branch would come up with some faintly mad ideas-exploding bolas, underwater cars(not so far fetched now) a tracking device in your car to show your current position and a map of the area-now who thought that would evolve into a satnav! Whistling at a key-ring so you can find it when lost? I think when they got to the invisible car(with John Cleese as R and the untimely passing of Desmond Llewellyn as 'Q'), it was stretching credibility a bit.
We've all evolved with each Bond film, so we are now more ready to believe that Bond would tackle Islamic terrorists rather than one man who wanted to rule the world like Dr No, Goldfinger, or Hugo Drax and even the villains have changed. Who now would find a bald black man with a large metal arm or a tall man with metal teeth credible? The women have also changed, most are now a lot more savvy and worldly and Bond cannot easily charm them into bed as he once did. The sexual revolution was one thing, but come the 80s AIDS etc changed the whole view of what a spy would be like. If James Bond were real he would have caught god know what diseases from all the women he had been(no doubt unprotected sex) and not to mention what he was doing to his kidneys with all the alcohol and rich food he was used to. Daniel Craig has been cited by Sir Roger Moore as being the best Bond he has ever seen and he is certainly more realistic.
Think back to the old Bonds. They used to end up with nothing more than a minor scrape or scratch yet since Licence To Kill (Timothy Dalton) Bond is seen as being in many scrapes and being injured too-more realistic especially with all the bullets flying about him. I happened to think that Timothy Dalton was a better Bond than people gave him credit for and could have gone on to more films to develop his own style.
Lastly going back to True Lies. Arnold Schwartzenegger's spy was more down to earth, there was a Dad who was secretly battling with terrorists and keeping it from his family which was beginning to unravel. This frightened the Bond people and they knew they had to change tack. GoldenEye, the first to feature Pierce Brosnan brought back the common enemy, Russians, which had been the mainstay of the last films and made Bond more credible and modern. I would also like to add that On Her Majesty's Secret Service is one of the best in the series, and the only thing that lets it down is George Lazenby. His performance, whilst not bad, was seen as a little wooden but I do think that the scene with his dead wife(having been shot by Ilsa Bunt in a car driven by an injured Blofeld) is genuinely played sincerely by Lazenby and it is a sad ending to a thrilling film, but you do see that Bond is vulnerable.
Fast forward to the remake of Casino Royale and the roots of why Bond became 007 is clear once his girlfriend is killed-Craig is a terrific actor and has made Bond his own now. I cannot wait to see SKYFALL. Is Bond relevant to now? Yes I think he is, he has changed with the world now and although the situations are still a little far-fetched and modern spying doesn't involve fast cars and sexy women, I think it makes him all the more credible and that is why he will always be around-whoever plays him.

Bond is a character from the Cold War. He had to stay in the period.
That's not remotely true.
The James Bond stories were never about the Cold War. That was just window dressing. Geopolitics, East-Vs-West, Communism-Vs-Capitalism, the Domino Theory, none of this ever raises its head.
Before the first Bond movie was made, Ian Fleming had already concluded that Bond-Vs-the USSR was a dry well, and created SPECTRE, a private enterprise, as Bond's primary opponents.
See the master film : Dr No.
In which, as opposed to in Fleming's novel, the villain isn't working for the Soviets, but for profit.

I see that we are not talking about the same thing.
I'm talking about James Bond.
True lies ? " came closer to being a true Bond film " ? Ooops ! :eek::confused:
Why upgrade a character of the fifties ?
Greenman, have you read a book by Ian Fleming?
Roger Moore, who has undoubtedly turned the worst movies of the series, is he a reference to that Craig is the best Bond? Read to find out who is Fleming James Bond, his physique, his character, his morality.
Today, he broke a door handle as Hercules returns a motorcycle with the guy above, etc ... That's James Bond?:(
Fleming he sent Bond on the moon? When?
You know the movies. A lot of stories you read, here or here. ( for your information, Brosnan was not the first choice for Living Daylights, but Dalton was. )
But the movies are they a reflection of the original 007 ?
Yes for FRWL or OHMSS for example ( and please, stop talk about Lazenby : " the only thing that lets it down is George Lazenby. His performance, whilst not bad, was seen as a little wooden but I do think that the scene with his dead wife... " No. It's what people say who have not see OHMSS had the time. )
OHMSS was not as successful as others because Lazenby happening behind Connery. We were 10 people max in the theater, the first day of exploitation. The same, the day after, to live again that fantastic movie.
Is it not ridiculous to hear people say all the countries Lazenby played badly? While most do not understand English?
Ridiculous rumor. In addition, Lazenby is doubled vocal half of the film.
He was a perfect 007. ( Or how Craig can be a good OO7 ?)
The world of James Bond is not the one of Aids or Arabs revolutions.
He is a man of the fifties.
It's why OHMSS is so good. No gadgets. A man alone. Not an hercules.
Timeless storie. It does with what he has. His trouser pockets, an eraser and a ruler. It on account of the often ridiculous gadgets OO7 film.
Sherlock Holmes is not a man from today.
But when I read you, I think... Why not ?
So, cool, men. I talk about Bond. Not about the actors who played Bond.
And I talk about The " real " Bond. The one of Fleming. Not the one americans want since Diamonds. :D

Mr Bond. to thank the other posts, i'd first have to agree with the contents of the posts.... Sadly, I think we share very different opinions on how Bond has been/was/is now portrayed.... I'm much more into the modern Bond that Eon has chosen to make; even though I've grown up loving the original formats, and enjoyed Brosnan's tenure too..... I love the whole character, no matter the era or ultimate outcome. My only negative is that Moore brought far too much humour to the role; and Lazenby was wooden; but that's a small gripe.

Thank you for your opinion.
Again, we do not see things the same way.
When I participate in a discussion (I do not mean to post pictures), I thank my interlocutors share this discussion with me, even though I do not quite agree with them. This is the least polite. More friendly. A way to show that you respect the opinions of others.
But I withdraw my Thank's to show that I respect your opinion, and you.
In addition, I just tell to you what I think about a character I like since more than 50 years, which should remain in its time, like Holmes, Zorro, Jean Valjean, etc ...
That was the charm of Bond at the right time, it was just old fashion. An English as there were few. ( he don't like the beatles in Goldfinger ! )
Today, out into the street, you're going to see 100 Craig. In London as in Moscow or Berlin.
( in moscow, they have a lookalike who's name is Poutine :D )
And all this technology kicks old to 007. Today, what is modern is exceeded in years. And even before.
Look at the coffee machine of LALD ! Or the jetski of TSWLM ?
The phone of Craig in the last film will be ridiculous in 2 years.

I see that we are not talking about the same thing.
I'm talking about James Bond.
True lies ? " came closer to being a true Bond film " ? Ooops ! :eek::confused:
Why upgrade a character of the fifties ?
Greenman, have you read a book by Ian Fleming?
So, cool, men. I talk about Bond. Not about the actors who played Bond.
And I talk about The " real " Bond. The one of Fleming. Not the one americans want since Diamonds. :D
:cool::thumbsup:
No I never read the books I'm afraid-I only know the films and that was what I was basing my premise on. I'm afraid also find it very difficult to understand what you are getting at, but then you can't help that your first language isn't English but I get most of what you mean. I know you were talking of something else but I decided that if I was going to answer this I would put my own 'spin' on it. Compare real life to fantasy. The biggest arguement when any new film comes out is "will it be relevant to the age?" so far, Bond has been updated many times, but I believe that if the REAL James Bond that Fleming wrote about(and I am going by the documentaries recently on him) were put on film, people's attitude to him would change and as I understand it the books have Bond more brutal than in the films. I could be wrong but again I base this on the tv programmes and specials made. Was not the 'REAL' Bond supposed to be Fleming anyway and his experiences in Intelligence?:)
Finally TRUE LIES was the closest to a James Bond at the time with the sets and plot-the special effects alone would have dwarfed any Bond made around that time which is why GoldenEye had a lot to live up to and had taken so long to come to screen-we'd waited an awfully long time for it and I think it delivered what was required-the opening sequence alone was magnificent(diving off a wall down the side of a dam).

the fact fleming wrote the book with bond being that more aggressive and harder than either connery or moore's bond; is exactly the reason i find daniel craig's version so enthralling..... all the other bond experts agree that this is how bond was supposed to be....
we could argue all night and all year as to who was the best or worst, and which style suits our own tastes...... but surely we can all at least agree we love bond...?

I'm not arguing I was taking a different tack with this. Personally I love all the Bond films but I think Daniel Craig is probably the best now. Maybe one day they might remake O.H.M.S.S. as long as it's nothing like that mess Never Say Never Again.

I talk about period, not facts.
The period is only relevant because of world events. That's why it's called the Cold War. And Bond didn't really deal with those world events at all, even from the very first movie.
The filmmakers adopted Fleming's creation of a criminal organization that wasn't tied in with the Cold War. Fleming created SPECTRE to make the Bond adventures more timeless.

Yes. My first language isn't English. You understand me, and no problem.
My mother left when I was a child, and was English. I lived with my father then in France, because he was French. and I never review my English family who knew me more ...
In reaction to the abandonment, I have not spoken English for a long time. That is why today, I have flaws. (But bond itself is it not half English and half French ? His mother, Swiss named Monique Delacroix :D ).
For the rest, you should read the books, you and the other members who have not read. Because Bond is not at all what you say.
For example, in Casino Royale, after an explosion in the street, he goes to vomit.
He is not sadistic (the OO7 of the films is very often since the beginning).
At the beginning of each book, or almost, he cry about the bond girl of the previous book, as a teenager.
Physically, Connery, Lazenby and Dalton are the most lifelike portrait of the one by Fleming.:D
Craig is an UFO, Brosnan too. No class.
( It just my opinion ! It's not the war, men ! )
Read books could open your mind and continue the fun you have with the movies. And you could discover many things.
For example, OHMSS is the story before YOLT. The films were adapted in any order, and also, for example, never SPECTRE was in DRN, FRWL, or DAF.
The books are very very exciting. Of course, if Bond had been adapted as books, he would not have had the success he has had. But a good movie is still a movie that has been successful ? The films would have more look like IPCRESS or QUILLER, if you know them. Pure spy game. And very good movies too.:thumbsup::thumbsup:
I, also, of course, love all the films in the series. But I regret some slippage as Moonraker, Octopussy, A View to a Kill, or MWGG, movies for children, (my opinion!). Bond is a personnage for adults.
A agree with you for NSNA. What a pity !
But for True lies ! Greenman ! Yes, the opening sequence alone was magnificent. But the rest is just a remake of that french film ' La totale ". A comedy, not serious.
So, it's fun to talk with men who like Bond. :D
So ( again ) I just say "I would have preferred Bond remains in fifties or sixties without too many gadgets or too much muscles or too much stunts, incredible battles never end ".
Keep your Walther in your pocket, guys. I'm a friend ! ( Mr Bond :D )

SPECTRE was created by Fleming, Kevin McClory, and Jack Whittingham.
The justice, if I well remember, said Mc Clory is the " father " of Blofeld.
The book FRWL is about Bond and Smersh, the russians. Cold War lookalike, cause Spectre is not in the original story, the book. ;)

Connery had the physicality to play Bond. Also he had the hottest women: Kim Bassinger, Ursula Undress, pearl diver babes, lotsoftop JIll St John and the dead pool babe, Shirley Eaton, Claudine Auger, Martine Beswick and the one from From Russia With Love. All these non-horsey women. He was the best Bond because he was politically incorrect. Although Never Say Never and Diamonds too comedic with chatty killer gays, etc.
Daniel Craig comes a close second: Olga Kurylenko, Gemma Arterton (fuk me dead), Eva Green, all holy crap walking sperm banks.
Final note. They should have cast Sean Bean as Bond in Goldeneye. He would have made a great Bond as riveting as Sharp, another favorite of mine.

SMERSH is a Soviet (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet) counterintelligence (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Counterintelligence) agency featured in Ian Fleming (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Fleming)'s early James Bond (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Bond) novels as agent 007's nemesis. СМЕРШ (SMERSH) is an acronym from two Russian words: "SMERt' SHpionam" (СМЕРть Шпионам, Směrt Špionam) meaning "Death to Spies".
Though Fleming's version of SMERSH supposedly was modelled upon the real SMERSH organization (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMERSH), which existed 1943-1946, the novels portray SMERSH as a massive Soviet counterintelligence organisation, much more resembling the real-life KGB (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KGB), which aims its operatives abroad in subversion of the West, with the additional goal of killing Western spies, particularly James Bond of SIS (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_Intelligence_Service). SMERSH's headquarters are stated to be in Leningrad (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leningrad), Soviet Union.
In the Bond film series (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Bond_in_film), SMERSH is usually replaced with SPECTRE (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SPECTRE) - a global terrorist organization.

Interestingly 'Smiert Spionam'(sp?) was the message left on 00 agents before being killed in 'The Living Daylights' - remember the chap climbing up the cliff only to receive that note sent down his rope by the villain before having it cut and sending him to his doom.

Firstly, Smersh appears only in very few books.
But I can't wait, Greenman, that you have to read the books. It will be very interesting for me to know what you think about originals stories. (If you read them, read them in order of release, not in the order of films). And above only the Bond of Fleming.
You will relive Casino Royale, with action in France, and a very sadistic Le Chiffre... , or You only live twice, a suicide mission, where 007 finally kill Blofeld, while crying Tracy. (No volcano in Yolt original, of course. Neither space, but a Japanese garden of poisonous flowers .....)
Or you discover the " real " death of Bond at the end of FRWL. ( As you probably know, under pressure from readers, Fleming restore Bond life in the next book.:p )
As I would not have read them, in order to discover today !!
Often, seeing the films from novels, I regretted that some things go.
Or that are invented nonsense, like the characters in Jaws, for example. Or the Stupidity to send Bond into space in Moonraker ! In the book Bond must stop Drax to send a rocket to London ... (But for few dollars to retrieve Star Wars succes, Broccoli was ready for anything  )
To talk about other things, I regretted the departure of Saltzman, he had a personal touch interesting.
Of course, today the "broccoli family" tell us what they want. We have to tell everyone that Lazenby left the series, but has not been fired as they wanted us to believe. Americans have done everything for Connery back, but Saltzman and Broccoli wanted Lazenby back. They gave him money already, but United Artists forced them for the return of Connery in DAF.
We have to tell everyone that Saltzman had money worries, but mostly he was so disappointed by MWGG he left the case, thinking that Bond was over.
And lots of things. Don't you think ? ;)
Greenman

Hmm I doubt that will happen-I don't read a lot of books but I prefer the films, they bring them to life. I read a Clive Cussler novel in 2005 and thought it would make a great film but one of his books SAHARA had already been filmed and although it was a good film, it wasn't as exciting as I'd hoped. I happen to think that for the time the Moonraker idea was clever and coincided with the exploration of space via Shuttles. I actually think the lift offs of the shuttles in the film was better than the real thing. It was a film for the time yet some people think it was rubbish. Maybe that was down to Moore-who knows?. I disagree Saltzman was a fool, he thought he could manipulate Broccoli and was against Connery being Bond in the first place. Lazenby regarded the role as just another role, even though his only claim to fame was being in Australian Milk Tray adverts. I thought Connery was right to walk away, he was looking too old(see NSNA) and just didn't look like he wanted to be in them.
MMMG? what's that?

Really, try reading a book of Fleming. Buy an older edition, Casino Royale, or Goldfinger or Live and let die. Exciting. I had read a book or two before seeing DNO at 62.
One of my favorites is SWLM. Nothing to do with the film, since Fleming had refused Fleming the shot of this story.
The narrator is a woman. Three parts. Me, Them, Him.
Very romantic story, a woman trapped, alone, isolated from everything. Bandits and finally Him ( Bond ) which only pass, and will change the destinies.
For Saltzman, I agree with you. But I speak of his interventions in the movies. Each film, Saltzman and Broccoli shared the works. Once one cared papers, logistics, advertising, while the other was on the set, another time it was the opposite. Saltzman was on OHMSS, for example, or on LALD. Broccoli was on DAF or MWGG (mmmg was a typo fault).
We recognize the mood of the one and of the other. Details of sets, etc. ..
We found him in the atmosphere of Ipcress, Saltzman had produced. An excellent film, I think, simple as FRWL. Espionage 60s. Not need a lot of gadgets or stuntmen.
For Lazenby, what you say is not true. I often met George for a time. He wanted to be Bond.
In Australia, he saw FRWL the day opening, and he swore he would do everything to be 007.
He left for Europe with this idea, and when the place was free ... You know the rest.
By cons, Brosnan wanted to be Bond seeing his wife playing in FYEO. And meeting production. Yes, he had seen Goldfinger younger. But who has never seen a Bond film, young at that time ? Opportunistic, conceited, I met him once, and he did not hide that he played Bond for the money and his career. Nothing more.
Dalton knew the book by heart. A true fan. A purist. An excellent Bond.
Greenman

Oh well if you've met George then you obviously know more than us mere mortals. All I know is what I've read and most people found Lazenby not taking it seriously and the only thing about the film I don't like is the hideous sound effects in the fight scene in his bedroom-why use echoes?? I also think that some people are too critical of Lazenby, he is pretty genuine and as you say wanted to play Bond for a long time but maybe he found it a bit too much. Agreed The Ipcress File is an excellent film.

Noticed in the Daily Mail this morning. Nikki van Zyl who dubbed voices like Ursula Andress and Daniela Bianchi revealed that she has been ostracised from Bond and not invited to the 50th Anniversary. Apparently this is because she has been outspoken and critical of the Bond films recently with her new book 'For Your Ears Only' is out soon and presumably she critised the genre in that too. A spokesman for Bondstars, organising the tour of Britiain said that she had been doing a lot to alienate herself from the Bond family and really only had herself to blame.

I heard it this morning on Radio 2 Ken Bruce Show and I have to say on first listen it wasn't bad, I am pretty sure it will grow on me but it is the first Bond song to have the name of the film in it since 'Die Another Day' with Madonna.
Sir Roger Moore was on the One Show earlier and he told a story of how Cubby Broccoli was up on a gantry and when he had finished his scene in a film, Cubby asked the technicians if they were done-they said yes, and he then proceeded to tip a large vat of paste all over Roger and the suit he wanted to keep-luckily there it wa a 'stunt' suit, there being another in stock :D He is on tour with his one-man show this October.

I find it most odd that the James Bond character and I think Berenice Marlohe is in it too, appears in an advert for Heiniken beer. Well, since when does 007 drink beer-he should be with his vodka martini(shaken not stirred) and I also notice there is a Coca-Cola Zero commercial that also used the Bond theme, this time bom de de bom etc hummed by the actors. Again, I don't get the connection, assuming there is one. I can understand the fragrance coming out, I am surprised it hasn't come about earlier.

What a good programme that was last night with Richard Hammond(without Capt Slow and Jeremy 'Power!' Clarkson) showing the virtues of the Bond cars from their humble beginnings to the present Skyfall-ending with a car built to go underwater just like the Lotus Esprit. There were some choice clips and interviews with Sir Roger Moore and Daniel Craig. I did laugh at the end when having been told that they had put concrete in the tyres to help weigh the car down, that how on earth were they going to get Hammond out-and you could hear him getting worried as the water was beginning to finally leak inside the car. All in all, it was a very entertaining programme-funniest moment was his attempt to go invisible-a good idea but you could clearly see him driving and the front of it was visible throughout - eventually tailed by a police car. One let down was finding out the low tech solution to the smokescreen from the DB3 - a small bloke sat in the boot and used a smoke canister that nearly asphixiated him as he let it off.
James Bond-A BAFTA Tribute was also very good, they really pulled out all the stops back in 2002. The only puzzle was how I missed this back then, because I didn't remember seeing it but I am glad they showed it because you found out a lot of information that Bond fans like myself lap up. Also good to see at least 4 of the Bond actors as at the time Sean Connery couldn't make it due to acting commitments. Shirley Bassey could really belt out a tune and she did just that with 'Diamonds Are Forever' and 'Goldfinger'. Also good to see some of the villains like Christopher Lee(TMWTGGun) and Toby Stephens(Die Another Day) and beautiful Bond girls like Ursula Andress, Honor Blackman, Halle Berry and Maryam D'Abo(Carey Lowell on tape, Caroline Munro, Shirley Eaton in audience) If you missed it catch up on BBC Iplayer www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer) it's worth it.

I'm a big Bond fan, and have been watching them over and over again on Sky. My favourite is probably Licence to Kill - not to everyone's taste I suppose, but Dalton delivers a rugged Bond who still manages to throw in a few choice quips and Robert Davi is an excellent villian in the mould of the lizard-like Manuel Noriega. "It's not personal, it's business..."
Great cameos from a young Benicio del Toro and Anthony Zerbe, and quirky comedy from the televangelist Joe Butcher played by the crooner Wayne Newton.
As for the girls, both are far from the usual fawning types but I still have a thing for Carey Lowell.
Favourite Bond girl however has to be Melina Havelock (Carole Bouquet) in For Your Eyes Only, which was one of the better Moore films. I have never been keen on the squealing girlie who delivers the oh-so-familiarly breathless "Oooh, James..." and Bouquet's character steered clear of that, and she was both gorgeous and feisty - I guess I've never been a fan of submissive women, and one that can handle a crossbow will always win bonus points with old Sharky.

Regarding the BAFTA programme,I think it was first shown round about when Die Another Day had its premier and then it was repeated again during the Christmas holidays off 2002.
Great programme and great to see so many faces from all the bond movies, not just the actors and actresses but the men and women behind the camera.Wonder if it was a record from the amount off people connected to the bond movies all in one room at the same time.Real shame the Connery Didnt turn up.Would have been amazing to have seen all the bonds standing togther. We will never ever get that chance again i think and like you say Greenman, pitty they didnt do something along the same line for the 50th Anniversary.

I saw Skyfall 3 weeks ago in a private screening.
I did not say anything, because I do not want to reveal the end of the movie fans who do not know everything.
I say nothing now, because I think our members and other Americans who cant see that before one week or two.
But they can know that I consider this film as the first TRUE Bond film of Craig, littered with cult scenes and a villain (javier Bardem) particularly bloody, probably the brother of Joker .... the son of Jack the Ripper and Christopher Walken ...
A good hero should have a real nasty front him to exist.
Here we are not disappointed.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
PS: Greenman, you tell us : Imax... I am not paying a huge price just for that. So, if you don't pay for that very very good 007 movie, for what do you pay Imax ? ;) It's time to open your wallet, my dear. It will not be messed money!:thumbsup:

We don't have an IMAX around our way in fact the nearest one is probably in Central London but it is too much of schlep to go all the way there just to see a blockbuster film, regardless of whether it is James Bond or not. I would 'open my wallet' gladly if there were one nearer to where I live but alas this is not the case-dear:D Yes if you could keep schtum about the film for now I and other would appreciate it-I've deliberately avoided all new trailers although a clip was seen on 'The Graham Norton Show' which looks pretty good. I hope to be able to see it in a few weeks time.:)

Also good to see at least 4 of the Bond actors as at the time Sean Connery couldn't make it due to acting commitments.
For a man not making any movies these days; Sean always seems to be busy 'filming' when these shows are being filmed; which is in fact just his usual excuse meaning "I'm not coming cause I don't want to be associated with Bond any more"
Sean has often spoken of his lack of excitement over these meet ups, and the fact he really doesn't want to be bothered with them any more. Not sure if he fell out with Eon, or just gotten even more cranky than he's always been....?
If George and Timothy can be bothered, considering all the shite and criticism that has been peddled their way over their own turns in the famous Bond tuxedo; then it's sad that the original Bond himself feels this way, and kind of lets the side down...?! :(
In finishing....Grow up Sean, and start joining in, before your head finally gets stuck up your own backside....!!!!!

Do not judge too quickly without knowing.
And do not burn the idols that you liked !
It is sure that, after " Diamonds ", and after " Never say " Connery was not the dear friend of Broccoli and Saltzman.
But today, he may be a bit old (he could be the grandfather of Craig) and may not be super healthy ...

Stromberg wanted to destroy the surface world with nuclear missiles and then create a new world undersea.
But how he was going to do that?
He had no women (His assistant he fed to the shark and his other assistant was blown up in the helicopter after Bond fired a rocket at her from the Lotus) on Atlantis and on the Oil Tanker.
He did take Agent Triple XXX hostage.
Was everyone going to just fuck her and impregnate her once a year?

Admitedly Bond was fired on first by Naomi the helicopter pilot and in a book I have about Bond, it says she was 'flirting' with him in midair, then as you say got a missile up her backside for her trouble.:D
His Assistant was fed to the shark because she had betrayed him-a little extreme but she would have stood a bit of a chance with a shark then the poor girl who ended up piranha fish food in You Only Live Twice.
Yes he did take Triple X hostage but was rescued by Bond-you might recall they end up in Stromberg's escape pod and rescued by a US ship
That led to the famous remark to Minister saying "Bond, what do you think you're doing?" to which he quips(whilst in bed with Anya(Triple X) Amasova "Keeping the British end up sir!":D

Maybe he wanted to make the sexytime with fish? Or Barbara Bach while the fish watched?
Or he was just mental and fancied nuking America and the USSR for little or no reason?
Rationality is in pretty short supply for most Bond villains. Conversely overly complicated plots with which to kill Bond and achieve a frankly barking goal are in abundance, there is a reason why Doctor Evil strikes a chord after all. I built an oil tanker / undersea city / hollowed out volcano / space station / etc and now the world must end for little on no reason!
Or they were attempting to dodge the mortgage repayments on their random-as-shit secret bases. Premiums on places like that must be a killer. ;)

I agree with some of that but pharaohegypt is right and it is true for any franchise that has lasted a long time and the actors are still alive. If you have a major anniversary as this is then you would expect the main actors to turn up to a special event. Okay he has retired from films fair enough, he's no spring chicken anymore BUT the fans would be bitterly disappointed were he not to turn up. And answer me this, why can he be bothered to turn up for a Scottish National Party conference(as we know he is a staunch nationalist) and not something more important to the world like an Anniversary of a worldwide phenomenon. I think Sean has his ideals all wrong. He could do both. He turned up to see Andy Murray beat Djokovic in the US Masters Tennis final last month so why not a special James Bond event?

Connery is like Brosnan.
They turn their back on the franchise that made me very wealthy men and very famous men.
Toward the end of both Connery and Brosnan's tenure as Bond, they were bitter and bad mouthing it;
especially Brosnan.
He was a totally different person from the one I remembered in 1986 when he was fighting for the role and NBC wouldn't release him from the Remington Steele contract.
Brosnan has become a total jerk.
The only movie I've seen him in after Die Another Day is The Ghost Writer and I didn't go pay $ to see it because of Brosnan, it was because of Roman Polanski.
Oh, Brosnan is in this film?

I agree with some of that but pharaohegypt is right and it is true for any franchise that has lasted a long time and the actors are still alive.
Still alive ? Oh yes. Sean Connery is alive.
But, perhaps he just want, now, have some fun.
He is retired from the cinema. He played Bond, but also dozens of very great films. He was an actor before 007 and after.
His unique presence has made the fortune of Broccoli and company. If Bond is here on screen, today, it's because Sean Connery launched the character for decades.
Without him, James Bond would not have been what it was and still is.
Yesshhh ! For him, today, the fate of Scotland is more important than cinema. For him today to see tennis is a small pleasure of life.
For those who love him, it is not important that if he is there or not for 5O years of Bond.
Sean is an old man.
If you want to see him in the role of James Bond, watch DVD's, or rather run to the cinema if you find one that still pass the Bond movies.
Bond, it shows in widescreen. Large screen.
So let alone Sean, if you like him.
Are you disappointed ? You bring the fact to see an old man walking as an old man on a scene with Bond Theme in the theater ? To feel what ?
Pity, perhaps.
Sean, it's sure, do not want that. Matter of honor and decency.
Keep in your mind the image of Sean in the part of 007.
Not that one :

Well we all get old and look different from when were younger. I don't begrudge Connery wanting to wind down and relax a bit more but I feel if he can go to the US Masters, and haul himself across to Scotland for an SNP conference or whatever they have, he should make some contribution to the franchise that made his name and him a household one worldwide. In this instance you CANNOT have an Anniversary with all the main protagonists from the films without the original one. If he can't make it, then surely he could record a message or something. I just feel that many, many fans are surprised and disappointed that he didn't come here for some of the events that have taken place this year-look at some of the Bond women, many a lot older than him yet they turn up to these things. I don't care what he used to look like, I live in the present now, and I feel as does Pharoahegypt that he should do SOMETHING.
And whilst on the subject what difference does it make if he goes to a tennis match or an anniversary event-he is going to look old whatever he does but if you are a fan it shouldn't make much difference - he is after all for many still THE man who was Bond. Daniel Craig however I think is probably as close as you can get to what he brought to the screen in terms of charisma and enigmatic presence on screen-which is why Craig might well steal his mantle.

he should make some contribution to the franchise that made his name and him a household one worldwide.
The franchise that made his name.... And him, his talent, that made the franchise. Without him...
And his career ? His talent, not James Bond. 007 is not enough for a good career.
After Bond, what happened to Lazenby, Moore, Dalton, Brosnan ?
What do you imagine for Craig after Bond ?
Me, I don't know.
A discussion without end.
So, let's talk about Bond, James Bond, the personnage, not the actors.

Well as you know James Bond is fictional so we are in fact talking about the people who play him - but if you want to talk about the character then that is okay too but to me the actors are the ones that bring him to life. Anyway I am bored with this line of discussion let us change the subject and forget Sean, if he doesn't want to do anything that is his lookout.

It won't open here in the USA til Thursday for IMAX and Friday for wide release.
I will try to take time off from work and go on Friday morning but not many people will want to rush to the theaters on opening weekend.
I have friends (or in the case of my Brother) that like to wait a couple of weeks and let the crowds die down some.
Also, some countries even get it later like

Not at all, I was merely stating that it takes a lot to anger me and had you done so you would probably get a PM about it, but I cannot see a point in time when you would do so as I said before I am not in a bad mood and it doesn't mean I am in one if I say that last statement. Why would I want to forget you, you have made some very good contributions to this thread-I think sometimes you don't understand a lot of English and it gets lost in translation. We're all friends here, no need for rivalry or bad feeling.:)
Does anyone think that Michael Caine in his younger days would have made a good Bond? I think so because if you watch him in spy thriller 'The Ipcress File' he would have brought something unique to Bond.

I have to disagree with you there Gm..... Michael Caine..??? Not in a million years....!!! Good in the films he's done; Italian Job, Ipcress, etc.... but NOT a Bond.....!!
Incidentally, I saw 'Harry Brown' last year; the film where he stars opposite Ben Drew (aka plan b / george carter in new 'sweeney' movie), and he was perfect for that role. just the right amount of bafflement with a slight streak of hidden malice..... but still not a Bond...lol. imho.
As much as I love Daniel Craig, I wouldn't have been upset if Pierce had done another movie either; he was pretty good in the 'old' format of bond.
MR BOND..... while i applaud your passion for the subject, a subject i'm also passionate about, I do feel you think that your knowledge is far superior to the other members posting here; or it often comes across that way..?? just a thought i'd throw out there.... we've notched up some fair old time in various threads over the time, and never fallen out, but i just feel that is worth mentioning.
As Gm rightly says, perhaps some conflict forming content in your posts may solely be due to bad or awkward translation; as its often not easy to put into words some thoughts when English is not your first language. English is often hard for those of us that only know the language on its own, much less those who have had to learn it over and above their natural 'tongue'. PhEg.

To Greenman and pharoahegypt :
Please, don't talk me about translation. English is not my first language, but I'm half english, and I understand exactly what you say, how you say it.
My other half is French, and next, the English language is very easy.
But as I said, you talk, but you do not read another.
In the case of our discussion, I gave you my opinion on the non-arrival of Sean's to OO7 ( in movies ) birthday . ( Marketing, this anniversary, by the way. 4o ten years ago, Soon 55, 60 in 10 years, etc... )
I planned to give you my opinion once, not twice!
I did not intend to make tons, but whenever I spoke, one or the other brother, or both ( " I agree you, Greenman... " " I agree you Pharaohegypt ", etc ...) continuing or beginning to argue ...
I understand your position, it was unnecessary to add each time, like children who want to have the last word.
This is not how I see a discussion. In addition, you do not even have the courtesy to thank your partner, even if it is not your opinion. Thanks for the discussion, or just sympathy. Sharing.
So, while it is not my style, I do not thank you, you've seen it. But you thank you, each one, this is charming.
I do not need your lessons, and I think I may be too old, too, for you.
I especially love VEF for photos I can bring the real fans and those I see here and there. And not only about 007, if you've seen other posts from me.
So, forget that.
It's just a drop in the ocean.... ( YOLT :p )
PS : You talk about PM, but you talk here. So my answer is here.
And please, my sons, don't talk again about this unnecessary discussion.

I had no idea that pharoahegypt was my brother! We are friends here and as such if he agrees with something I say he thanks me, and vice versa, there is no conspiracy, there is no agenda, there is no bullying here either. If you don't want to give thanks then fine, don't, I am not bothered either way, as plenty of my stuff isn't thanked instantly anyway including by PEgypt-I am not seeking popularity nor did I want it, you can't help being a legend can you:D
Let's face it we all have our opinions on Bond and a forum is a good place to type them. You have to see both sides of an argument or opinion and of course we are not always going to agree or see eye-to-eye, but then that happens in the real world too. Anyway I think we should forget this subject and continue as we've done before. Now kiss and make up you two :D:D
On the subject of seeing Skyfall-I would of course love to see it, but at the moment we cannot find the time-hopefully in the next couple of weeks definitely before December, but if you want to discuss it then go ahead, I've seen loads of clips on shows at the moment so there is no escaping it but don't let that stop you from discussing it. I just won't come here for a while so I don't spoil it for myself. :)

As both myself and Gm are in our forties.... sorry Gm, but you are.... I don't think either of us could be classed as 'son' either...?? unless you're in your late sixties Mr Bond...??? lol.
As for the bullying accusation...... behave.....!! I was just trying to find a reason for your constant putting down of our opinions, by hoping it was just a language issue and not just your way... i was clearly wrong. If anything, that is bullying from your side..??
I could have PM'd you this, but it's here for all to see....!! I don't hide behind PM's..... But then if you knew me at all from our many passing posts over the time, and previous messages we've exchanged, then you'd not think that way of me..??
Every thread is open for debate and posting of everyone's views; not just that of one person; and no one person; with exception of a moderator; has the right to tell any other members what they can post to it...... Even if you start a thread, it doesn't make it your thread.... trust me on that, as i made that mistake a long time back, and was rightly corrected/chastised by higher powers......

It's not a thread, it's twilight zone !
You give me words I don't write. You think that or that about me, but nothing true. I just give you my opinion. You don't read what I write. Or don't understand.
All that because I understand Sean Connery who is an old man now ?
Bad mood. Not very good for our VEF family.
Oh... pharoahegypt : I have 60 soon ( in one year ). I see Dr No the first day in 62, for example. I don't tell you that to say : I am a bigger fan than you. But I have another kind of look about James Bond and his history.
If a moderator can delete all these posts, it will be fun.
Here, the star is James Bond, not Mr Bond. And not you. And please, forget me ( in this thread ) and talk about 007 and girls, sons ! :D

I know I am, I'm not ashamed, can't hide from it, and believe me I've tried several times. Age shall not weary me, nor make a difference in liking Bond.
Sorry Mr Bond, we can't forget you, you're here all the time so it is hard for you to hide too.:D Just go with the flow and don't take everything so seriously. Connery is and always has been to many THE James Bond but I think Daniel Craig is about as close as you can get to his sort of Bond, yet he is making it his own.
It might surprise you that I have in my hand a copy of Carte Blanche by Jeffrey Deaver, the new writer of Bond books and it will be my first read. I shall let you know what I thought of it.:)

Age shall not weary me, nor make a difference in liking Bond.
From my last post :
I have 60 soon ( in one year ). I see Dr No the first day in 62, for example. I don't tell you that to say : " I am a bigger fan than you ". But I have another kind of look about James Bond and his history.
For the book :
I can only congratulate you immerse yourself in a Bond book.
But please start from the beginning, and just Fleming, for the moment.
Nobody writes like fleming. This is a pure delight to read the details, the Fleming originality never equaled, and certainly not by Kingsley Amis with Colonel Sun ! (And even less after with Benson and others. )
Bond is born with Casino Royale.
Or start with Dr. No. (just friendly and expert advice , as you may sometimes advising a friend to see first a particular film.)
This will allow you to see the mods made by Saltzman and Broccoli, and especially by director Terence Young and editor at the time, Peter Hunt. And also to understand why purists ( I pretend to be part of ) regret modernism brought to Bond throughout the years.
If OHMSS is finally considered as it should be, a fantastic film, it's that this film follows the book pretty well, and is timeless.
Or, to be more modern, read OHMSS first, and then YOLT, this is the order they were written.
Or YOLT first. Here, as in DAF, no more frustration ( DAF ! No revenge, Bond has become amnesiac and does not remember he was married with Tracy, etc.. ).
YOLT is the revenge of a poor Bond ( since Tracy's death ), in front of Blofeld the bastard and his bitch girlfriend Irma Bunt ! ( where is she, in DAF the movie ? SHE killed Tracy  )
Read a fleming book is finding many anecdotes and fascinating details in one book, comparing it to the film.
This is the basis for study the phenomenon in depth. And why, to begin the series, they chose Sean Connery.
But you do what you want. It's just my opinion.
Skyfall is a point in the movies. Full of very important things for the future. There was a before and an after OHMSS. Same thing with Skyfall.
:cool::thumbsup:

There have been occasions where nuances of the English language have possibly been misnterpreted. This is especially the case when it is a subject that means a lot to an individual, like 1960's/1970's Marvel comics and marine dinosaurs to me.
Can we agree to disagree for now and allow the thread to move back to the Bond theme.
PS - why when I search on imdb for movies with no connection to 007 at all does that now very annoying Skyfall preview start??

No idea Wendigo, it shouldn't do, it doesn't when I look there, I used to get a pop up come up but appears to be gone now.
Latest Bond movie Skyfall, has grossed over £50m making it the most successful Bond of all time in the cinema over a weekend. I have got to see this film very soon.
Mr Bond: Well to be honest most people have read the books before seeing the films and I am of the old school that if you've seen the film, the book is either disappointing OR nothing like the film-you see my dilemma, whereas Carte Blanche has never been filmed so I have nothing to go, which will make it all the more exciting to read. I was too young to read them when they came out so I was more brought up on the films. If I remember correctly the first one I saw at the cinema was probably 'Live and Let Die' with my Dad. I've only missed one since and that was Casino Royale 2006 version.
Finally does anyone know if they've brought out any merchandise for Skyfall like models etc?

Hi Greenman,I have bought a few collectables from SkyFall,am a massive fan off the movies and therefore have a large collection of Bond Memorabilia.
The Italian Plastic kit maker "Italier" have brought out a Model off the Merlin Chopper from the film. Its in 1/72 scale but you have to build it and paint it.
Also from Italier is another model of the Merlin Chopper but this time its in Diecast. This one comes in 1/100 scale. Both these models come in nice boxes and have a pic of the chopper from the film.
Corgi are back again. As you know they have a long running hitory with the bond movies and again they have released the DB5 thats in the film.
I have bought all off these plus my favorite collectables from any film is the Posters, always worth getting.
Apart from the above the only other things i have bought is the sound track and the 50 years off bond CD's.
Plenty out there for you to choose from Greenman:D
