I'm looking into getting a scanner and noticed Mustek makes a couple A3 size (11"x17") that are not horribly expensive. I'm wondering if anyone out there has used this size and if they found the larger size (compared to A4) useful enough to make the extra cost worth it?
Besides a big stack of old smut magazines I've got a large collection of National Lampoons and a WWII history magazine series I intend to digitize, being able to do two pages where pictures and text overlap from one to another looks to better than being able to do just one page at a time and then having to fit and align them when it's a two page spread.

I suppose it's a rather good buy

Newegg has it (1200dpi) for $166, the newer (2400dpi) for $260. Software and drivers seem to be a problem with the 1200dpi model from reading the reviews.

Yes i read that too.. so I suppose you'll have to go for the newer model to avoid frustrations..

I don't know much about the newer models, but the older models were junk. The old adage, you only get what you pay for, applies here.
The better models to look at are made by MicroTek, Epson, and Canon.

I ended up getting an Epson 330 about 15 months ago. It's done OK so far.

I considered the MUSTEK some years ago but then settled for the CANON Lide30 and I have had that for about 6 years-it has never let me down so far and they are pretty cheap now so you couldn't go wrong with one of those. It's an A4 version however, I didn't know you could get A3 Scanners-not sure Canon make small versions of those.
